which head bolts

yes ive read everything i could in the forums but no directly .....ive got a 1992 ---6bolt block and im putting a 1993 seven bolt head on it ............i need a direct answer which head bolts do i use the 6 bolt head bolts or the 7 bolt head bolts ....... and yes i know its interchangable but im asking which head bolts to use ...and i cant find anything with a direct answer in the forums ..........please i need a quick respomce on this thank you

Absolutely do not use 7-bolt bolts in a 6-bolt block. You will strip the threads in the block. A 6-bolt block has 12mm threads, and a 7-bolt has 11mm. You use the 6-bolt bolts with a 6-bolt block and drill out the bolt holes in the head with a 1/2" drill bit.

Before you put the 7bolt head on the block, make sure you take it and 1 of the studs to the machine shop and have the holes enlarged for the larger 6 bolt studs.

the whole way through, if the head has been surfaced you may want to do this while your there.

sounds like some one is going to need a new head in a couple days. Take it to a machine shop have them do it

Yes, but just through the bolt holes already in it. You want to make them larger. To make this clear. You are not drilling any new holes in the head, you are reaming out the existing bolt holes.

You dont need to drill anything!!! The 1g 6bolt and the 1g 7bolt has the same size holes. I put a 7bolt head on my 6bolt block with arp studs and didn't drill anything!
