I run one Qt. of Redline Skockproof Light Weight and the rest Shock proof Heavy in My trans... Other oils that are thin do not offer enough protection in a hot climate.
I also run Redline Heavy in the T-Case and in the Rear End.
 
While I do respect Mr. Ripple's comments regarding Shockproof and build up in the transmission, We need to keep in mine the very large change in viscosity that occurs between the temps experienced in Jon's dungeon hide-away and inside a transmission that is actually in use.

I do agree. I have the upmost respect for Jon and his work. Since reading this I am considering changing my oil. My only draw back is the reason I started using this oil. A guy I knew was pushing over 450whp in a 2g AWD with a ton of 11 sec. passes and lots of non-legal racing. He had over 70k on a stock trans with only Heavy Shockproof since it was new. He never had any problems with his tranny.
 
I run 2 qts BG Synchroshift and 1 qt of Redline lightweight shockproof. The 130k mileage stock fwd trans shifts like butter. This is also the mixture AMS recommended for a stock trans.
 
I have tryed everything under the sun. but i have to say Valvoline 75-90w makes my trans and all my customers happy no failures in 5 years. And just to add this in here i tryed royle purple sycromesh in a customers shep stage 4 NO GOOD, so valvoline it is! and go right ahead and tell me its going to eat up the yellow metal like sycros i have never seen it.
 
shockproof heavy its well...too heavy, this is a great example in your case.

try using straight synchromesh in yours.

Where in MI I wonder? I'm in NW OH and frequently rally up into lower MI. The synchromesh stuff is too thin. Gear clash like crazy. Redline Heavy Shockproof is perfect. Works fine all year round. When it's especially cold, the trans still shifts like butter. Getting the engine up to enough temp is my issue, never an issue with the trans.

90k miles on the trans with the Redline in there most of the time before TRE rebuilt it (stupid 5 cent piece broke). Only comment was that it showed minimal to normal wear (this is a heavily road raced and rallyed car), no comments about waxy build up or anything.
 
Well the facory spec for my 1G AWD is the same as what MT90 is. So that's what I use the facotry spec gear oil. Not thin stuff and not shockproof which is not intended for our transmissions.

Should your lubricant requirements not change even though you have increased torque by 100% to 200%?

Possibly...but I wouldn't go thinner...also I think I read on the Redline site that it doesn't really belong in our type of transmission. They have a pdf file on every one of there products. It'd be good idea to call them and see.

When my last transmission failed it was running BG Synchroshift. Funny thing I still have the old bottle; I noticed it says Front Wheel Drive right on the bottle. Of course I just used what other DSMr's were telling me. AWD needs the thicker stuff. The exception is if you are willing to change it like every 10K or something silly.

I've got nothing against using thicker gear oils, but we should make sure they are safe on the soft metals and that they work good with the synchros.

We do have front wheel drive transmissions made to work for AWD.

I have never had a problem with heavy shockproof and have known others that have used it for a long time with out any problems. It been awhile since I received my TRE but if I remember correctly Jon recomends changing the oil every 15k. But I'm unsure of that.

And apparently he also recomends MT90, which is what I also use. Changing every 15K is overkill for me. Every 30K at most with the good thick stuff (Daily driver, not a race car, of course each person's needs may be different). When I said every 10K I was talking about if you are running thin stuff like SynchroWhatever..
