Hey i need to know if i can cheat on my gear oil and use 20w-50 instead of 75-85 in the trans itself

You shouldn't. Gear oils have different friction modifiers and properties than engine oil, and a much, much higher film strength to deal with the loading on gear tooth face pressures. The friction modifiers are to help the syncronizers work.
