Which cams if any?

Hey guys, I'll be in the market for cams soon and was hoping you could give me some insight as to which cams best fit my setup? Here's the important parts my setup:

16g turbo (looking to push it to around 20-25psi)
Evo 3 exhaust manifold
FMIC with 2.5" hard pipes (long route unfortunately)
Stock IM with all emissions deleted
Stock 2g throttle body
4" K&N filter with 4" adapter
Stock intake snorkle with recirculating tube chopped
2.5" O2 housing matched up to a 3" straight pipe
Random ebay muffler with 3" inlet and 4" outlet

So as you can see the engine has been opened up a bit, but I was wondering if cams would be a good upgrade at this point? If so, which kind? I have a bone stock head and I really dont want to install springs and retainers. With a 16g I think any cam that requires those things would be too big but correct me if I'm wrong. I'm really just looking for more top end without sacrificing too much torque since this is my DD. Lopey idle would be nice, but performance is what matters most. There are just too many to chose from! I'm also open to the idea of mixed cams. Thanks!

264-272 is a pretty nice combo, or both 264,272.I would upgrade the whole head at one time, springs retainers, lifters, all of it.The most bang for your buck.

Or buy another head, build that, then swap on, on your day off.

Also add headstuds, if you want to go above 22 psi, at 20 it's a good idea, but has been done before with stock studs.

You could also go 1200cc injectors, and run e85.

If you would want more top end then a 272 combo would be best for you. If you choose Kelford, then the 264's are what you would want.

I agree with Bud, you should consider just doing the head at one time and at the least, replace the springs. While the bump sticks may not require you to need them, those stock springs could be severely fatigued and won't last even with a mild cam.

If you do end up doing the springs, I would then highly recommend changing the valve seals as well.

I love my 264's and I'm still running low boost with a 14b, but my high end is great. Its almost like having mivec for lack of better terms. 5-7.5k is crazy. the rest of the power band is great also though.

Thanks for the advice guys! I have a spare head, but it needs some work. I look into getting it built up. With 272's would I have to degree the cams, shim the lifters, or anything like that?

I do have ARP headstuds, 660's, and I've been thinking of going water/meth pre compressor or pre intercooler since alernative fuel is hard to find around here.

I have seen you swear by those cams.Just wondering if they are that badass and cheap?

They just had a sale on them u missed, they run about any price like any other cam like kelford. The cams are about $500 and have seem improvements from many dynoes when people swithcing from hks, regrinds, and bc cams. They have proven themself so if your ganna waste your money on cams you better spend your money right and get some gsc's. Don't forget to get springs retainers.

I woulnd't waste time with 264 or s1 cams becuase you can launch full boost with a gsx and get good traction you should be more worried about your top end.

If it were just a track car I would agree with this ^^ but being a dd I wouldnt go bigger than 272 intake exhaust. Or the many other variations of this. Many people make big power on stock cams but, as I said I notice my cams more 5k and up on 13psi with 14b.

Im running a e316g at 28psi. Have direct injection methanol setup as well awaiting install. I am running Dks 272/272 with stock springs/retainers and revised 3g lifters. Revving to 7500. Pulls all the way to redline. Nice lope at 750rpm. Love these cams.

Ive been looking at those cams for the budget car. Seem to be a really good bang for the buck
