I have a 95 GST and want to clean the headlight lenses + paint them black inside, how do i remove the lower bolt holding the headlights in?

Anyone have a picture of where it is? Can i get to it using a jack?

i dont have a scanner to show you the picture...but its underneath the bumper. i dont know any way to get it out besides taking the front bumper off, which is how the haynes manual tells to..i tried using a snake driver and all kinds of things but im pretty sure thats the only way to take it off...my point would be im not putting that screw back in after i get it out finally...its not that damn important.

actually, if all the bolts and screws are still on the bumper and headlight, you cant get the bumper off unless you take the headlights off first, well i guess its possible but the last screws for the bumper are under the headlight so unless your some sorta contortionist dont even bother with that one. What i ended up doing was just breaking the headlight off the housing for that last bolt, another way of doing it is trying to slide a wrench between the headling and bumper and get to it like that, so ive heard, that didnt seem to work for me, so i just broke it out since that bolt wasnt going back in anyway.

use a wrench, then a longer extention, then a angle socket, then a short extention, then another angle socket, then the socket for the bolt. That is what i used. Look on the tech articles, more info there

ok so if i decide to rip it out how exactly should i do it?
pressure? grab where? etc

i used then handle of a hammer to get leverage on it and just try prying a few different places, and i also use the end of this big pick thing, but be carfull not to bend anything, the light wont bend the like the fender will if your not easy with it and stuff, or you could always just try and pull it with your hands but youll prolly need a friend to help you, just be easy withit and dont bend anything.

I took all the other bolts etc for the front bumper off,
then pulled really hard and broke the little tabs under the head light out.

In other words I converted the holes in the bumper to slots so I could remove the bumper to get to the bolt.
They still slide back in and the headlight is still secure.

I think this was said before but anyway.
unscrew all headlight bolts in engine bay. Then get long extension , pry with something . pry between bumper and headlight so you can slip extension and socket to headlamps lower bolt. unscrew and wiggle the lamp out. I dont know but for me the passengerside was alot easier than driverside.

I know I could've just went ahead and take the easy way out but I went ahead and took off the bumper, it's not hard anyways just a whole bunch of bolts. The only difficult bolts to get to are the ones on the side where the fender meets it. Even those aren't difficult to get out, it just takes a little time.

I've taken it out twice, once to remove the headlights and paint the housing, and second to take out and clean my smic.

NOTE: The four bolts that people tend to miss are those large ones holding the bumper support. If you have a Haynes manual you will see on the removal instructions diagram those four bolts. Because the only way I figured out how to remove the bumper was by removing the bumper and the bumper support.

ok, heres my problem...95 awd tsi talon w/e,
front head lights, got the top bolts out, and got the two back corner bolts out
now there is supposed to be one more underneath inbetween the bumper and the head light....stuck a huge light in there and I see one big bolt that I am sure doesn't go to the head lights...where the f*** is this thing? everyone says "oh its in there" yeah well I can't find it period i have looked till my head hurts, is there a possibility that the 95's have a screw in a different place other than where I am looking?

thanks for any help seriously, trying to get my bumper off and this is really beginning to annoy me.

[Mod edit: Changed your topic title. -leet]

It should be just beyond where the bolts are on the bumper support.

I have a 95 and the bolt is there. It's pretty far back and you almost have to know where it is to find it with a flashlight. Especially if it's dirty, try looking up the bumper. You might be able to see it easier by looking up from the bumper, for me it was.

If you have fogs take them out and use like a long extension with the bendable adapters to take the screw out.

Honestly people will probably flame me for this but I thought it worked and it was easiest, when you get to the last bolt, grab the headlight from the back and just yank as hard as you can until it snaps, only way I could get it off and you don't even need that bolt anyways.

I read the bumper removal guide thing...
fultito are you telling me the bolt is facing down toward the ground underneath the light?

I will remove the fog lights and look up there with a light hopefully I see that little b*tch but jesus thats a hard removal. I have a six inch extension piece with a swivel head do you think that will work?

my old s10 you just pull a plastic clip up and the light drops out...pretty simple a monkey could do that.

Last thing, is getting the bolts back in just as hard as getting them out? i MAY just leave the bottom bolt out if I ever find it and get it out.

thanks for the help guys

Did you catch the circled areas on the pic that I borrowed? You can see one hole on each side within the circle. My bumper is off of my car and I'll take a pic in a few minutes.

Here ya go. I think this is the one you are missing.

thanks guys, if all else fails and I don't get to it...snapola!

yeah so now I gotta figure out how to make an L bracket for the rear end conversion to an eclipse...

Don't break the headlight off! Take the front bumper and bumper support off and you'll find the bolts you are looking for as shown in the picture(s). It's alot more work, yes, but then you'll have done it right. The front bumper is 5 bolts across on the top, 2 bolts tapped into each fender, a few screws for the fender well plastic, and a stupid plastic piece underneath has a few screws as well. The bumper support is 2 bolts on top. First time it'll probably take you 20-30 minutes, after a couple of times you'll be able to do it in 5-10 minutes.

Same method I used..just got fed up :shhh:

yeah I finally found the article on how to take the bumper out and not break my lights...

but I face much bigger problems now... should I put a blitz front and rear bumper on my car, I have them both, painted to match, fitted, all I gotta do is bolt them on...some people are screaming rice, others are saying "cliche' blitz kits" but i'm thinking how else is my car gonna look ninja without a decent body kit...and on top of that, the black out halo projectors with some black out eclipse tails would look sweet with a blitz kit right?

god i'm so confused, if anyone wants to buy my blitz kit and lives in NC or SC i'll sell it for 400, if not i'll put it on. Oh yeah how do you make an L bracket for the conversion to eclipse...some people are saying move the original holes up but I don't want anything I can't change back to talon if I don't like it. I would like to make a bracket and then just bolt the kit on I guess? anyone know a step by step install article on the rear conversions I looked but couldn't find anything worth while.

It's YOUR car. Even though people will flame you, if you like it that's all that matters. Personally i love the stock look though(2gb) but if i were going to get a kit, i would definitely go Blitz. :dsm:

thanks crazy, I submit to several different forums for my different interest (bboy,paintball,freestyling,s10.org, and some others) and here it just seems a lot of negativity...especially in the newbie forums where there should be more positive feedback and less..."why the #### are you a moron" statements...

I felt really bad after I got the kit cause everyone kept saying "everyone has those, stock looks better etc.." but I haven't seen many around here and the ones I have seen look like ass cause the owners fuk em up with primer and never paint them. I wanna get the kit put on, leave the stock side skirts, and get the whole car painted black pearl with those glitter flakes in it. For some reason that turns me on..... :nono: vroom vroom hear me purr.

Nobody has those but everybody has the 97-99 bodystyle. It seems that everybody took them off if they had them because they were getting flamed. Personally, I don't think they look that bad as most people would think. Thanks for avoiding the green paint too. It's nice that you're not an n/t too, to help avoid more flames.
