phastalon,
I'm sorry I'm just now reading this. Because for you it will probably be too late. For my fellow DSMers wanting to replace their carpet but don't want to pay alot try taking it to the car wash first. I've done this on my current and previous DSMs. Take the carpet out. Pull off all of the sound deadening on the back. It will fall off at the car wash and it holds alot of the nasty stuff you're trying to get rid of! ;) I also traced around the little cardboard "thingys" that give the carpet its shape with a sharpie so if one fell off while washing I'd know exactly where it went. Take the carpet to the carwash and bring a trash bag (or two you might want to double bag it). The trash bag is for the ride home. Hang up the carpet on the clips for the floor mats. Start spraying it down with the soap setting. I saw all sorts of nasty stuff just running out of mine. Put it on the rinse setting, and do so till the water running out of the carpet is clean. Put the carpet in the trash bag(s). Take the carpet home and spread out to dry. I hung mine on our fence for a day (nice warm weather) or another option I also did to speed up the process was to use a wet and dry vaccum to speed up the process. Anyway this method cost me about $5 and that was washing the carpet and the car I brought it in!! OMG If you're planning on replacing the carpet anyway give it a try you might be surprised. I've always been happy with the results and didn't think it needed replacing afterwards. Sorry this post was so long but maybe it will save one of my fellow DSMers some dough and headache of putting in new carpet. :thumb: Later.

Thanks Blizz, I may try this with the stock carpet just to see how it looks afterwards, but I am really excited about getting everything black and of course I have already bought everything I need thus far.
Again, thanks for the post, I hope this helps out others as well:thumb:

I'm looking to buy new carpet for the ride for the simple fact that I'm re-doing my interior and everything needs to be fresh. Anyways, did mitsu ever make black 2g carpet? I thought taht it only came in tan and grey? Let me know, thanks.

Are they pre-molded and stuff? I don't have a problem cutting something, but I don't want then sending me a flat piece of black carpet LOL.

I must voice my objection to this non-performance mod. Please ensure the floor mats weigh less than the OEM floor mats. Thank you.

Please ensure all aftermarket carpeting weighs equal-to or less than OEM carpeting in order to remain within original factory specifications. Thank you.

Myself and several of my friends have used this place to get new carpet. Comes pre-molded with jute padding underneath, and heel pads. They do offer OEM black carpet for all models. Word of advice.......if you do order some, I'd borrow a steamer from someone before you install it. It comes rolled up like a rug in a long box, and looks pretty wrinkled when you unroll it. It fit perfectly and looks awesome.

I called my local dealer about a month ago - a molded replacement piece of interior carpet with padding is $185 from them. I don't know if most dealers are the same, though i'm finding the 1A Auto brand for a little over $100 on ebay....

Word of advice
even though they say it is molded and pre cut you wil find that a lot of the carpets are not really pre molded very wel and often times are harder than a b**ch to put in. I put som in my ride and it took me almost all day.
If you do it dont get pissed and start cutting remember you can always trim you cant add carpet!!

good luck

Yes, definently don't go cuttin carpet. You WILL have to cut small holes and slits for the seat moutning brackets and a few other various things. But, make em as small as you can at first. You can make a hole bigger.....but not smaller. Thanks for stickin that advice in Mitsutuner.

I put carpet in my MR2 like a year ago, it was premolded, but like someone posted before, I had to use a heat gun to get it to fit correctly. It looked awesome after I trimmed it and put it in.

I was thinking about that as well, but for shows and such i'll have one pair of floor mats, and another pair for everyday driving.

Guys,

I heard some later 2G came with black interior. Mine is 1998 and it came with black dash, black center console, doors and side rear trim panels. But floor carpet, mats, side center console panels are gray along with a-pillars. I searched caps, but all a-pillars were either grey, tan or blue, so I figured blue - must be black, but when I ordered one I was surprised once I got another grey a-pillar.

Does anybody knows if 2g ever came with complete black interior? Can anyone know OEM part numbers for black carpet, black mats and trim panels?

Thanks a lot for help,
Best regards!

I don't know if it helps or not, but I just got a new carpet off of Ebay for $127. It it molded like oem and fits great. i just had to cut holes for the seats and shifter. Good Luck.

Thanks bOOsted!

I ordered a black carpet off the ebay for $95 + $25 shipping as well as new mats for $39.99. I'll wait till they arrive and then will post some pics.

We all love them, do they make them in Black?
I have the syder ones and i love them, but they would match my black interior if they were black?

Does the dealer sell them? I thought they were $50. I am planning on buying a set real soon. Black with the silver "eclipse" across the side.
