Where Can I Find a Good AWD Tranny???

My tranny just went out on my 1990 TSi AWD with 59k . My 2nd and Reverse gears are gone. I just took a look at TRE trannies. but i don't know what to do. Send mine in and get it rebuilt, buy a used one in the classifieds here, or buy the TRE-spec AWD tranny and get the core charge? I need some guidance here and a little input. I am 18, a senior in high school, and have a part time job, so money is a bit of an issue. I will be pulling my tranny later this week so... I need to make up my mind fast and I need your guys help PLEASE.

well if i send my tranny in should i get some beefed up internals thrown in like a GVR4 first gear and input shaft and stuff like that. Only reason i ask is because i heard the 90 awd trannies suck so i was wondering if i should go for a 91.5-93 23 spline if those are better than the 22 spline.

how much hp is the car putting out? Do you need an upgraded trans? If not buy a used one or rebuilt one on ebay. I see 1g trannies on there all the time. Try finding a 2g awd.

I just got one for my 2gen GSX and it was really hard to find but it works well

well HP i am not sure but by the end of winter it will be a beast. a EVO III 16G, built cylinder head, 2600 clutch, lightened flywheel, intake, FMIC, 3" exhaust, i found a stock '93 AWD tranny with 100k on it. but idk yet if i am getting it shoulg i just send my tranny into TRE and get it built. my tranny has 60k on it. but is the 22 spline better or worse than the 23?

BOOSTIN21 - If money is an issue, then send it to John at shepracing.com. Excellent work and much cheaper than TRE. If that is still too much for you, then you will have to settle with either re-building yours, or buying a used one and hoping it lasts..... Good Luck.

thanks 99GST_Racer. that does seem to be the better option. I am going to start pulling the tranny today in my Auto's Class after i do some suspension work on my buddies 3g eclipse i will let you all know when i send in the tranny and when i get it back. thanks for all the help everyone
