Okay I have read tuners and RRE upgrade path. I have pretty much followed their steps. My one question is when should the stock clutch be replaced??

Should it be replaced when it starts to slip, before you believe its starting to slip, before a turbo upgrade or after the turbo upgrade???

I plan to get my fuel mods this summer, and then either a clutch:D or turbo:D during the fall. I was just wondering should I do the clutch before the turbo upgrade or after the turbo upgrade???

A stronger clutch is something you can always use now. The great thing is that you can break it in on low boost without having the urge to romp on it after fuel mods. Depending on what your goals are, do some research and see which one will be best for you. I'd do it now and have a healthy drivetrain to build more power on later.

Hope that helps,

Andy

Really depends if you have the cash to do it or not. Always better to do the clutch with the new turbo just to be on the safe side. Now if you really want that new turbo first you can usually hold off on the clutch depending on how you drive and how much boost you want to run. Obviously if you grab a 50 trim and turn the boost up to 24 psi, or like to do 5000+ rpm lanches that stocker defently isn't going to last very long. What exactly are your turbo/boost plans?

Ultimate goal is to get a FP3065, but that is no where in sight. I will be getting that like in one and half years or two years.

But for now I plan to upgrade to some variant 50 trim, not sure which one but the PTE BB5031 is what I am leaning towards. And in the mean time I plan to gather all the supporting mods to max out the 50 trim, and prepare my car for the FP3065.

Boost I plan to keep at 20 psi, until I at least get some ARP studs.

Well 20 psi on a 50 trim will probably make pretty short work of the stock clutch. Another factor to consider is how many K's do you have on the stocker? If your easy on it you should get abit out of it, but I'd start saving for a new one just in case. Like I said best idea is to upgrade the clutch first, but I know how everyone would rather spend the money on go fast parts first ;)

im running 19 psi on my 50trimed gsx with the stocc clutch. you could get away and prolong the clutch's life if you dont shift at high revs consecutively. the good thing about the 50 trim is the spool time, off boost, the car will be sluggish and less strain will be on the clutch. it all depends on how you drive the car. ive put 13000 miles on the stocc clutch and it hasnt slipped yet at shifts past 7k. i guess you can say, "if it aint broke, dont fix it".

I wouldnt worry that much about when are gonna change your clutch....Why would you replace good stock clutch if still works. When start sliping, then is time for the new one... Simply as that. Ones you come to the point of replacing the bad clutch, get the one that will hold the power that your car has at that moment, dont overkill...Its not good for your trany (I dont like to talk about trany because i get nervous and i wanna fight and hit and what not :beatentodeath: )...You'll keep changing your clutch every 10k if you have over 300hp no matter what kind of clutch you have....

I've heard testimony of people putting 30,000 miles and hundreds of launches on their ACT 2600 before it needed to be replaced. This varies with driving style of course... you could toast it shortly after break-in if you wanted to.

Not me man...

Switch out the clutch when it starts to slip.

It took me 12K to go thru the ACT2600 (stock flywheel, street disk). Upgraded to a CM FX500 pp, f1 chromoly flywheel, and sprung six puck disk. I've been on this setup for 8K and love it.

When you can run through every gear at idle without pushing in the clutch.

We pulled that from a friend's newly purchased 1990 TSi, needless to say it was needed...... :D

Wow...A clutch that looked worse than mine. As soon as it starts slipping though, I would replace it. And shortly after putting in that turbo, it'll be slipping, so start saving.
