When you first install a brand new out of the box turbo do you need to fill it with oil before installing it insuring that it has oil at startup? Anything else I need to know when I go to put my RS49T in?

when i installed my 16gt turbo i just cranked the car over a few times to prime it and the car ran fine and i never had ant trouble with the turbo. :thumb:

when my 16G went on we just turned it on and watch for any leaks. After 10 mins the car stopped puffing smoke from the exhaust. IMO the car will get oil within seconds just let it idle for a bit and your set :dsm:

Remove ignition harness plug and crank the engine for 15-20 seconds......pause 30 seconds to let starter cool, repeat once more., plug harness in, crank and check for any leaks (of any kind). Then don't worry about oil starvation, (unless of course you forgot to tighten the oil feed.....then worry).

Yeah, just pre oil it somehow before firing it up. There are many ways to do it as stated above.

alright thanks guys! I just wanted to be sure there wasnt anything major I might be missing. Dont want to mess up a brand turbo.

put a t-28 killer in my car about a month ago.. primed it from the information i got from www.forcedperformance.com. Here is what they have on their site.

My new turbo is installed, now what?

Before starting the motor, it is important to get an adequate supply of oil through the turbo. To do this, disable the ignition or injectors (different for various cars) so the car is able to crank without firing. Crank the motor over for 30-45 seconds in 10 second intervals. This will pre-oil the turbo, and prevent premature thrust bearing failure.
