Tecumseh,
I didn't know where to post this but has anyone else ever had any of their wheel studs break right off? Last night I was driving and I heard a weird popping noise coming from the front driver side wheel, this morning I checked it out and TWO of the wheel studs were broken right off. I thought maybe the guy who put the lugs on with my new rims mmight have over torqued the lugs, could this have caused it? I just couldn't believe two of them were gone.

thats a good possibility, i torque mine with a torque wrench to 90 ft lbs, at least i think i do, i use to use a torque wrench, but after a few times, you kinda know how tight to go....how long did you drive it after you got your wheels on? most shops put a note on the bottom saying "if wheels were off, please check torque after the first 100 miles" or something like that, just because vibration and rotational movement will slightly loosen up bolts. Maybe i am wrong though, they could have been a tad brittle, and you did something to aggravate them, so they broke.

As mentioned by Zach, it's a good possibility that they may have overtorqued the lugs putting too much stress on the studs. I've seen this happen before at a tire shop that used an impact gun with way too much torque for lugs to reinstall. Not to worry though, replacements are cheap, but they should be pressed in. Since you're up here in Canada just check with Canadian Tire and they should have the studs for a few dollars (try Napa or a dealership if they don't).

I've managed to twist one right off when it was overtourqued after some service. I also got to see the entire front drivers-side wheel of a pickup truck pop off and roll in front of me on the street just the other day. Thats my story.

Wheel studs brake all the time...It's very common..Could be due to the fact that if you don't hand tighten the lug first before using an impact, you could easily brake a stud. Getting new studs and having them pressed in shouldn't cost very much. Not to mention u gotta get new lugs too...What a bi***..
