i have a 96 gsx. I need to replace my hub due to it being seized onto the end of the axle. We used a 20 ton press to try and get it off and nothing. so i was wondering if anyone new if the front hub is the same as the rear? i can get a front hub assembly and press off the bearing and put a rear bearing on it if they are the same size?

A 50 ton press will usually separate a 2G hub/axle, once it reaches about 40 tons. Few mechanics have presses this big, but most machine shops do.

Harbour Freight has a 50 ton press for $650 - that's still cheaper than 4 new axles and hubs :)

only reason i am asking is because i want to trade in this headache of a car. Man i used to love this car, but as of late, the thing has been a money pit!

i found the rear hubs are about a quater inch taller wider longer whatever.i bought front hubs took off bearings put on rear hub bearings spaced them out and vooila. the actual bearing and hub the mounts to the knuckle are different. but if you put a quarter inch spacer between the bearing and back of hub it works not well but works. how long it lasts who knows a quarter inch was my magic number use the old hub for reference before making your new one. also the axle nut will not seat all the way. this is not advisable but worth noting. im pretty pissed off mitsu would even do some shit like this. why not make them all the same all the way around. the splines seem to be the same the inside diamter of the bearings are the same. this fix saves money around 150 to 200 dollars. i paid almost 150 total for both sides. could be engineered better or worse depending on the person time and patience. ive been riding this way for a month now and no issues so far but i am going to buy the right hubs without a doubt very soon.
