Wheel Clearance question

Wow that is close, I have 225-40 18's on my gsx and they are not that close. What is the offset of the wheels? But like the previous post says you should be fine if they are not touching but that is too close for my comfort.

95-96 have less clearance than 97-99.

OP what spacers did you use? Hopefully they are vehicle specific, and not the "off the shelf" ones from Autozone etc. A good set of Ichiba Spacers front and rear should be less than $100 bucks, and specific widths can be ordered 5mm-25mm, plus all kits come with new studs to accommodate for the spacer thickness.

To the OP, actually, yes the 97-99 GSX has a little more wheel Clearance on the suspension arms and those are the same wheels that came on my 99. Those are 17x7 but I'm not sure of the offset on them, but I can tell you I'm now running EVO 9 wheels with 245/40-17 tires and have more clearance than you have.

The OP has GSX wheels, so his offset is +46. The guy with Evo 9 wheels has a +38 offset. A +38 is just about perfect for running 245/40/17s on a 2G. But you all knew this from searching....

For lateral grip, you need three things (for starters): more tread, wider wheels, and more front camber. We can talk about dumping the current springs and the Illuminas some other time. If you want a simple suggestion: 245/40/17 StarSpecs on Evo 9 wheels or some other 17x8.5 +38 or so. (Why did I say StarSpecs instead of RS-3s? Good question. The answer is because the OP lives in Washington and StarSpecs are much better in the rain than RS-3s.)

I run 18x8 +40 with 225/45 rs3-s on my 97. In the front i have about 7/16ish clearance and in the rear about 1/4 for reference. I agree the rs3-s dont have enough cuts to be a superior rain tire and thats why they are a summer tire not an all season. I can say the rs3-s are not a huge fan of any - camber im ny experience.

Very wise it rains alot. Heres some better spacer pics and just a reference, horrible before spacer pic. I got the tires with the rims their BF G force 225/50 zr17 94w. my concern is that the tires are soo tall that they might flex enough to rub the arms
