As in the title what is the normal operating temp for a 1g eclipse in degrees please if anyone knows.thanks alot joe.

mine runs between 189 and 199, this is on my car so its probably is not normail

hmmm does your gauge say its overheating at 199 because the highest mine read was 198 and that was beating the fuk outta it with a 160f thermastat.

the factory gauge is a piece of shit, it shows no difference between 180 and 220...use a pocketlogger or something to get accruate readings.
btw the general concensus is not to use 180 or 160 thermostats as they affect the warmup cycle and possibly the o2 readings...there are many posts about not using lower then stock thermostats on dsmtalk

The only time to worry about running a 160* thermo is when then car actually runs at 160* I have a 160 with a fluidyne and run between 185-203* o2's cycle normal but normal on my car is and will always be .78-.82v

I agree with using the 180, but when I went to the parts store to buy mine the book says the 160 is the right one. I had to ask the guy behind the counter which 180 one would fit. I don't know if this is what the factory manual says or not but get the 180.

EDIT:
Now that I think about it some more I think I might have gotten the 190*.

Mine gets highest of 203 or so with A/C on. I got Mitsu 180 deg thermo. On interstate at 197 highest

The reason i have a 160 because i can have one with no ill affects because that is the way my chip is setup on my ecu.i got a logger but that damm thing never works my palm was bad so im waiting on the new one.My friend is an a/c guy so he has all the accurate temp readers I used them all and the hottest was 198f.That was with a laser temp reader and a element reader.

And DSMTalk is wrong.

The 180 is definately ok to use. I too would stay away from the 160, because if your temperature really gets down below about 175 then weird stuff is going to start happening due to warmup enrichment.

However, the 180 won't have this problem and is a great purchase.

ok a 160 thermastat doesn't mean that your car is at that temperature it means that is when the thermastat opens like i said it was reading 198 degrees.
