whats metal box under where radio/cd was?

part number is MB572650. its about the size of a radio and is screwed into both sides of console. what i want know is do i need it. i believe it as 2 plugs coming out of it and the arent plugged to anything.

looks like it mite be an amp

It is the OEM amplifier for the sound system. If you don't have the OEM deck anymore, it's useless to you.
