I took out my factory tape and CD decks from my 91 talon and theres a metal box thats got wires coming out of it that went to the factory stereo. I looked in my Chiltons book and its not in there. What is it? A factory amp?

I have a new pioneer headunit I wanna put in. My car is the 6 speaker setup. Do I want or need this in?

I thought the ECU was the metal box forward(deeper in) of the stereo. This thing is under (towards the ground). Is it the ECU?

Not exactly sure never riped my radio out to find out. I saw a diagram once that the ECU was on the passenger side just a little lower then the radio and fliped sideways. Maybe that helps:confused:

The stock stereo is 3 pieces - the headunit, the equalizer, and a stock amp. If the piece you're talking about is an aluminum metal box, yes, this is your amp. If it's a yellow/metal-ish looking, has a mitsu logo on the front and has 3 plugs going into the bottom of it, it's your ECU.

ok its an amp like i thought. Do I need it? Is it needed for 6 speaker? I wanna use the stock speakers for now so I wanna just buy a harness and make it all work. Will my head unit fry this thing? AHH help! DO i want this thing!

yes..it is an amp...it says right on it...i put a new cdplayer in mine not to long ago...you dont need the amp...your new cdplayer should have its own supply for that....just make sure that you hook everything up the right way.

Yeah thats what I wanna find out.

There are 3 harnesses. Do I use them all? Do I need to rewire things like are the speaker wires hooked up to the amp now and do I need to rewire them to bypass the amp. I dont know if im explaining this well but basically if that is an amp it must power the speakers and that means the speakers are wired to it. Do i need to cut them or can I get full 6 speaker use by buying the headunit harness for my car and plug the headunit in the stock plugs. And if so just remove the old amp without rewiring anything?

Im sure a million ppl have figured this out already its basically putting in an after market headunit. HELP
