What would you do SAFC or DSMLINK?

Hi, here's Mike from Switzerland again.
I've got a little question, maybe you can help me out with this:

I've ordered a EVOIII package 4 with 650cc form forced performance.

I wanted to go to a tuner www.nextek.ch. He will mount and install everything.
He's one of the best here in Switzerland.

Now my question is: He normally works with safc. I think he knows what hes doing with it.
but I've heard DSMLINK is much better. What would you do?
let it install with the safc and he's knowing what he's doing or
let him install DSMLINK and he has to try and figure it out how it works?

he has never used an other thing than SAFC and I have no knowledge of tuning a DSM either.

thanks a lot

PS: all i'm looking for is about 300-320 whp.

Depends on your setup goals and budget because dsmlink can become costly..(laptop eprom etc)..If your going for like 300 to 320 safc and logger setup would be fine. You can use dsmlink for that too but if this guy never used it before and your paying him to tune it ..idk about that one..?! For that i would learn myself how to tune with it.....

The general consensus is DSMLink if you can afford it. It does everything the SAFC does and a whole lot more. There are very few people that would tell you to go SAFC instead. As Spyder1 stated, it is all about cost with DSMLink. DSMLink itself will run you something like $595. E-Prom ECU around $250 - $500 (unless you already have the e-prom ECU.) Laptop, if you already have one, nothing. If not you are looking at $300 -$2,000 depending on what you are looking for and where you buy it.

DSMLink will cost you abit more but is defently worth it. It adds a tonn of features that the SAFC doesn't have and is much better as far as tunning goes, it isn't a piggyback system like the safc so you don't have the timing issues like the SAFC because the timing & fuel are independent of each other. It is very user friendly and they have great support on their forums, you should be able to get a pretty descent tune yourself. Add a wideband and you should pretty much be able to tune as well as at a dyno. Check their webpage out, it has all the answers your looking for www.dsmlink.com

DSM link by far bro. It is expensive, but yeah, the tuning tools are by far the best. Here is an excerpt from thier site at www.dsmlink.com

FINALLY! DSMLink for the 1990-1994 (1G) platform is now available! And take a look at the new cable design. USB users, please note the specific USB to DB9 adapter requirements stated on the cabling page.

FEATURE OVERVIEW: DSMLink is the datalogger and tuning tool for the first and second generation (1990-1999) turbocharged Mitsubishi Eclipses, Eagle Talons and Plymouth Lasers. Rest assured, this is not just another datalogger. This is a full-fledged datalogger and tuning tool. DSMLink not only provides high-resolution datalogging facilities, but also provides the tuning tools necessary to actually do something with all that data. DSMLink provides the user with fuel and ignition timing adjustment facilities inside the factory ECU. You retain all the driveability of the factory-calibrated fuel and timing maps during cruise operation, but gain full control over things at wide open throttle. You simply specify RPM-based adjustments and DSMLink automatically creates the 3-dimensional mapping used internally by the ECU. It's a very easy, yet very powerful way to tune your car's performance at the track.

A basic overview of the features provided with DSMLink are outlined below. More detail can be found in the user manual, available for viewing in the Downloads section or you can refer to the Details section online. DSMLink V2 is the only version available for new purchases. The feature set below is split into two sections so that existing version 1 users can review the new features provided by DSMLink V2 to decide if an upgrade is appropriate or not.

Well, he has a '95 so chances are he already has the EPROM. There is truly no comparison between an AFC and DSMLink. It's like comparing a hamburger to filet mignon. With DSMLink it's quite possible to have your car running better than stock in very little time.

There is no disagreement that dsmlink is better then SAFC....But we're talking about Mike's case, in which he's going with a very common setup and all is wants is 300 horses...
The safc and logger will definity do the job and will work fine...plus the shop can tune it. If mike is thinking about upgrading into a bigger setup and what not then probably getting the dsmlink now wouldn't be a bad idea.....But again it's all about Cost ...dsmlink will put a whole in wallet but if you got a money then it could be a option....and as far as tuning it dsmlink has support forum that can help you. In my opinion if you're going to stay with that setup safc will work fine stay with that...
