Just like the title what usually breaks when the tranny goes? is it just the valve body ect. or everything? I am talking about a usual break from horsepower.

Clutches, starting with the over drive clutches. Valve bodies dont break, they are just passages for transmission fluid. When i lost my trans it was because of the third gear clutch pack.

From my experiences with a couple of my other cars anything inside the transmission housing is fair game when they break.

I think my 3rd gear clutch pack may be going bad too. How did your car act right before it happened, and how much did it cost to fix?

I have a real bad flare on the 2-3 shift, which makes me think it's the 3rd gear clutch pack. I've replaced the end clutch, so I doubt that's it. In fact, the tranny was already starting to flare a little before I even did the end clutch last year.

I had an occasional 2-3 flare up, only happened once in a while going up a hill or putting a load on the trans. All was fine car was running, one day I get another flare up that felt different, longer and alot more, bad. Car drove fine for another few minutes until eventually the car would just fall out of gear, go back in gear for a sec, fall out, etc...... Took an hour to limp it home. I flushed the trans, tried to drive it again, and it did work fine for about 10 minutes until it died again, then I parked it and had it towed back to a friends shop. Flushed it again and drove it to aamco. 19**.00 for a full rebuild including parts labor and an upgraded tranny cooler. 3 years 30k mile nation wide warranty even with all the race parts.

I put in IPT's third gear clutch pak, IPT billet converter, IPT (trans lab) shift kit, and a tranny guage. I am going to wait until the end clutch goes out on it's own before I replace it. And thats about it.

Are you getting a CEL? i get code P1750 and I have a bad solenoid that is causing gears 2-3 to flare up if I apply too much throttle. Just a thought..

definitveno, thanks for the info.

spyder97gs, no CEL. I may try to pull the TCU codes this weekend-- I did it once before a couple of years ago, but that was before it started getting like this.
