I need a replacement bolt for the tranny were it bolts to the block under the starter.. What size length and pitch is the bolt?

If everything in your system is working and adjusted properly, you should not need to shim the pivot ball. I had asked twicks69 about this and he said it's the same thing as the extended slave rod - just a band-aid for another problem. If shimming the ball would work, your problem is most likely in the pivot ball or fork.
I'm not sure what to tell you about the need to break it in or not, so I'd just say take it easy for a few hundred miles just to be safe.
