What size FMIC piping???

I bought a FMIC from clubmitsubishi.com several months ago. Never got the piping for it, so now i'm gonna build my own. If i understand correctly, the IC is actually a "street core" from Johnny Racecare. It has 2 1/4" OD inlet/outlets. From my searches it looks like most use 2 1/2" piping. Should i go with the 2 1/2" and use reducers at the IC inlet/outlet, or should i run 2 1/4" all the way? Right now i have a std 16G and 3" exhaust from the flex pipe back(3" cat). I will be adding a better 02 housing(###### tubular) as well as a 2 1/2" down pipe. Ultimate hopes is having 275-300whp. I wanna size this right so i don't have problems down the road.

The best piping to get would be 2.5". This will increase the air flow, and maximizing the purpose of the FMIC. If I were you I would get the reducers and run 2.5" the rest of the way from the end tanks. :cool:

Or you can even cut those off and reweld the inlet and outlet with 2.5". That way the airflow does not get clogged up. However that is up to you.
 
Yeah, he is correct, you would probley want to go with 2.5" piping all the way. For the setup you are running, it would be perfect. If you plan on getting a bigger turbo or modding it up quite a bit, you might even want to consider 2.75" or possibly 3".

You need a substantial amount of modifications in order to even come close to realizing potential benefits of 3" IC piping. 2.5" is the largest IC piping most people need. Remember that the increased diameter of piping just adds extra space the turbo has to fill with pressurized air until it can begin filling the combustion chambers with boost.

Do you think that the 2 1/4" IC inlet/outlet will cause a restriction if used with 2 1/2" and reducers? At the power level that i'm looking to run that is?
I would like to have the inlet/outlets replaced with 2 1/2" but i dunno of anywhere local to get it done. I don't wanna ship this thing...

There will be a restriction of airflow somewhat, but even if you used 2.25" (ID) pipes all around, you should be fine for the power level you're looking to achieve.
