I'm pulling the engine and transmission from my '95 TSi AWD, and the car is going to be in that state for a couple of months. It will most likely be in the driveway under a car cover most of the time.

Should I pull the driveshaft, or would I be okay just strapping it to the bottom of the car? It's not about the difficulty of removing it (easy peasy), but more about storage space.

I think it would be best to take it off and store it properly in your garage or whatever, but if space is an issue I feel like you'll be fine leaving it strapped to the bottom of the car. I recommend covering the end of the drive shaft with something, maybe a plastic bag zip tied to it, just to keep it from getting too dirty or scuffed.

Coat the yoke in grease (inside and out) and use a plastic bag if you have to leave it in the car, at least that's what I did.

I've pulled mine a couple times and I leave it in the car. Just put a piece of cardboard down so it doesnt get scuffed. I also spray it with some WD40 and wrap it in plastic wrap then zip tie a ziploc bag over it and I've never had a problem with rust or with it being in the way. Thats how its sitting right now actually Lol

any time i pull something like a drive shaft, I store it either in the car or in my shed.. I also will almost always spray them with a coat of paint.. keeps moisture out and looks much better when it goes back on.
