im 16 yrs old, and just bought a 1998 eclipse gsx with about 96000 miles on it for 6000 dollars. i want to increase horsepower but not go broke trying to do so. what would you recommend be the first steps to upgrading my car? :dsm:

ps. the car is completely stock except for the greddy type-s bov

I also want to know if the deal I made for the car was a good one or not? Was a 98 GSX all stock with 96000 miles and no body damage and good condition interior worth it?

First step would be performing all maintenance on it! Change all fluids, belts, check everything and make sure it is running properly and will be safe to upgrade if done correctly. Too many people try to throw on bigger turbo's right away and forget about the maintenance aspect of modding cars.

thanks for the help. Today i raced my friends pontiac grand am and i smoked it :thumb:
hopefully someday ill be killing some v8's hahaha

nvm...i guess i cant put up these kid of videos. sorry.

Streetracing will soon get you in big trouble. Keep it to the track or empty roads imo.

Just dont get caught street racing , the law doesnt play these days they will take your car and youll get a fat ass ticket, and if your older than 18 like me you could go to jail. I mean were all enthusiast and we dont do all this stuff to our engines to drive slow, but if you take the risk to drive real fast find a huge highway in the middle of the night with no one else on the road and/ or go to the track or autocross or something but its just not worth it to speed on the street anymore unless your way out somewhere. I mean maybe im speakin on the fact that ive driven crazy and fast and done insane things in the past and have learned from it but id rather chill now days. Besides the car you raced looked like a waste of gas and wear on your car. This was Just a word of advice.

Well i hate to be the barer of bad news, but have fun getting this thread closed down for posting a street racing vid. Defiant will eat you alive. I would highly recommend editing that out.

Otherwise, welcome to the club, initation and hazing will follow :p

Not that I condone it, but if you are going to waste gas and wear and tear on your car, put it to better use than a tired pontiac grand am. And, word of advice: I don't know if you got a good deal or not on the price of the car, but if you keep driving it like that, you'll be spending that in a year to keep fixing it, and at 16 and with a lead foot, I don't think you have the bankroll for that or the tickets...good luck though.

First mod, invest in a # at your local track. Second mod, unhook the wastegate actuator from the flapper whenever you are not at the track. Seriously, a blast or two down an empty country road is fun from time to time, but getting a street racing ticket at 16 will screw your whole life up for a good long time. I've got a few friends you can talk to if you don't believe me :D Now that the old man lecture is out of the way...

Those links turboax2 sent you, you should have already read and known what to do. Change every fluid and every belt, you never know what kind of moron owned it before you did. Unless it's got the dealer stamp on it, I'd want to do it myself or bring it to someone you trust. The third "mod" you should do is get a factory service manual. There is no replacement for it, Chiltons are ok, but... it's not the same.

Don't ever race or modify a car that is going to take you to work the next day. If you do, make sure there's another one that runs well in your driveway. As you push the boundaries of stock and after market parts, things start to break.

*edit* NM, I saw your other youtube video. You should just unhook the wastegate actuator and run it. You'll love it!
