what kind of tranny is it??1g or 2g

i got this tranny for free but ill i know that its a awd tranny. here are pictures and if some one can help me confirm what gen it is.

well it says SL1991 so since like 1990- another early 90's year is 1st gen and like 1996 up is 2nd id say you have a 1st gen awd tranny probably from a 1991 GSX, TSI, Laser turbo. Well at least your lucky you got it for free.

The SL1991 dose not indicate the year, its some type of part #. It looks like a 2g trans.

It's a 2g trans.But if you look at the pad just to the right of the right bolt hole in your picture of the part #,This is where you find the vin#.The second letter tells wether it's mitsu or eagle(A for mitsu,E for Eagle)The tenth letter tells the year.S 95,T 96,V 97,W 98,I believe X for 99.If there is no vin on the pad,then it could be a warranty trans or new bell housing.Looking at the pictures I'm pretty sure you'll find the vin#.You can also tell if it's fwd or awd from the fifth letter.(K FWD,L AWD,X Spyder)I can see the viscous in your picture.(AWD)

sweet that what i was hoping for (2g)and i got the tranfer case for free. it needs to be rebuilt so ill send it to shep or tre but i dont know yet.

Yeah i was saying one thing but typed the other. It its a whole lot cheaper because you won't bs yourself for stuff you don't need. ive done plenty auto tranny's and like 2 manuals and when you do it yourself you decide wether whatever is worth it or not

I bought parts off his gsx. He has 4 eclipses all 2g. 1 auto GSX, 1 GSX manual, 1 GST manual, and a spyder. He was a really cool person. It was on the floor with some old parts and I ask how much and he said I don't need it free. So he gave it to me. but the SL1991 thru me off

I would take it to get rebuilt, especially if you've never done some real work on your car before. maybe it'll even have like a 30 or 90 day warranty. I do all my own work and all I know is, if you try to do things fast, you'll mess up and end up spending twice the money. but that's just my opinion. But, if you do decide to work on it yourself, make sure you read up on it before you even start to take it apart, because someone has always done their trial and error for you.

its a 2 g tranny.... it should have a big weight in the front or someone may have cut it off, but the mounts look like 2g
