what kind fuel pump should i get

This is why I phrased my post "I got crappy gas mileage". ;) And I was tuned on SAFC-II. This was before such inventions like DSMLink. And something tells me the OP does not have a method to tune right now. Is it possible to have bad gas mileage with a 255lph fuel pump and NO TUNING method whatsoever? Absolutely. See how my sentence is phrased..."possible".

hmmmm. Why? You must have personal experience?

He's simply pointing out you wrote 450 instead of 550 for the Walbro

Personally, if I had to do it again I'd give the Deatschwerks DW200 255LPH Fuel Pump a try. It flows the same as the 255 but is less noisy. If you plan on using it as a daily, the 255 can become annoying.

I don't see any reason to use anything but a 255hp.

That whole deal about needing an AFPR is hooey. Sure the fuel pressure may run wild at idle, but the affect only goes up by the square root of the percentage increase in pressure. Example: on a 1g at 37si, mine sat at about 48, with the vac line un hooked, 40 hooked. So sqrt(48/37) = 18% rich. That's well within the fuel trim limits. Ecu, fixes that right up. At cruise conditions, fuel pressure is at target, and it is no longer a problem.

If your bitching about the noise of a 255, get a new hobby.

The 450, is overpriced junk IMHO. 2 x 255hp's flow more fuel, and don't die from E85. Same deal with all the other pumps (junkomotive, Doucheworks, ect...)

I made 650whp on a 255hp in-tank, and a 255 inline, in parallel, and now I'm going to 2 in-lines, and not having a pump in the tank. $200 worth of pumps good for 700+whp, on corn, and I don't have to deal with that nightmare of the electrical pass thru on the sending unit, and can't pass any current.

I see..... i honestly have never heard of a walbro 550 til u mentioned it.450s are known to drop in with minor/no modifications on our vehicles. I have a walbro 450

I meant 255 not 550, see even I make mistakes late at night :p It's just a general accepted idea that the 255 is all you need with these cars. Didn't know the 450 would be a drop-in. Learn something every day.

I beg to differ, we don't all have the same expectations for our cars. I don't need a ton of power, just enough to have fun. Furthermore, I like to have a silent interior when I want to have it. Having a silent pump makes a world of a difference. Just because I don't do what you do doesn't mean I don't enjoy the hobby. So please refrain from trying to expect everyone to have the same thing, he wanted options I'm giving some.

It depends what your goals are. If you are using a smaller turbo with lower boost levels then a walbro 190 may work fine for you. If you plan on really upping your boost levels a 190 with a rewire or a 255 may be what you need. Supra fuel pumps are also a cheaper alternative.

I bought my used EVO9 pump off of EVOM for 40 shipped with 38K on it. Seller had really good feedback so I bought it. It's been fine for a while now. It flows about 205 so it's a bit more than the 190, but not so much that it requires an AFPR. People have pushed the EVO9 pump to over 400whp.

Yeah let me swap out my current pumps & see just how well a 450 works for me...

No kidding.. if I had to do it all again.. I'd jump straight to the Magnafuel 4303 I have now and a proper AFPR setup.. that should service 98-99% of all DSMs fuel requirements.

Not much louder than the Bosch 044, can service very high volume at very high fuel pressure continuously with relatively small draw and has -10 in/out.. self-primes, etc.

I, and I suspect many others, have spent way too much constantly upgrading as the mission creeps from xxx hp to yyy hp. Granted there wasn't an option for Hi-Z 2000+ cc/min injectors at the time but I have had like 5 sets of injectors.. easily as many pumps stock -6, -8 and now -10 feed line (surge to pump to rail only)

Had I just ponied up for the big injectors, AFPR, -8 feed/-6 return and the 4303 or even a mechanical (Waterman/Aeromotive, etc) right off the bat I would have probably saved ~1500 or so bucks in the last half decade.

If you want big power and only one pump why mot a magnus mechanical. It's lighter and doesn have load on electrical, and stops fuel soon as the engine stops. Literally won't need another pump ever again. I'm considering this. And it's quiet :)

I'm confused with your logic. Let me follow along here. You are championing the 255lph pump from Walbro, I would agree, it is a great pump. Walbro then made the 400lph pump as a bigger drop-in alternative. Sadly, the 400lph was prone to dying when running e85. Lets get to the important part. Walbro then made the 450lph pump as a replacement for the 400lph and is their only pump that today they stand behind in conjunction with running e85 fuel. You might say they specifically made the pump to run e85. While I liked most of your post, you abandoned all sense of reason and started to make things up when you got to that part.

There is nothing wrong with that idea if you have $1500-1800 to spend on just a fuel pump system. Really is an awesome setup though, pretty sure you could support 2000hp with that.

Dunno where your getting 1500?

http://magnusmotorsports.com/products/fuel-products-services/magnus-mechanical-fuel-pump-drive/

Most people will spend theequivilant (729$)on that going through ss lines, fittings, the hassle of mating said fittings to stainless lines, inline pumps, upgrading pumps. Rewires. Kill switches etc.

You have to run it in tandem with the aeromotive hex drive fuel pump. They retail for about $750. That on the magnus website is just the drive. I figure once you throw in the -10 fittings you will need to the tank and other needed extras you will easily be pushing 2,000$.

A mechanical pump for anything less than straight alcohol or methanol and under 900awhp is just stupid. Do you have any idea how much over-run you'd be putting on your fpr and return??

Not necessarily. You could just get a proper regulator and return.. I am using a -6 return with a 4303 and I can get my BFP down to 40psi

If you are running a 67mm or larger turbo on E85/98 or Methanol its not a terrible idea, even if you are not making 800+ whp.

It's just not the most practical solution in many cases.

MagnaFuel MP-4303 or Weldon 2345A is going to be about the most almost any DSM will need. The 2345A needs a step down box for street use though, according to the rep I spoke to last year.

Which is what swayed me to the 4303. Though there are plenty Aeromotive and Weldon users that seem to get by in spite of not being rated for continuous duty.

So again if I was starting over, and had aspirations to make more than stock power down the line I would probably not beat around the bush and go straight to the 4303 and supporting equipment. Same goes for injectors, ID2000s/FIC2150s.
