2G What is this noise!

My car is a 97 eclipse gst automatic. Everything is pretty much stock. Just replaced turbo a few days ago. Car is running like shit and is making this noise that sounds like drumming/ticking/clicking etc.... Car has a huge loss of power and if i try to drive it, the car just dies on me. It does NOT smoke or anything.if you have any idea what this may be please let me know asap. Thanks

did the noise start after you replaced the turbo

no the noise started when the turbo went out. Thats why I thought it was just the turbo.

Just some fyi about the turbo.
The old one made the car smoke a ton and had a ton of shaft play and wasnt rebuildable. So i replaced it with another t25 with zero shaft play.

try spinning the turbo by hand to see if you get the same noise

Does it make a noise at idle or only when you are driving

it makes it both at idle and while giving it gas. if i try to drive the car it just dies

im having the same problem my noise is coming from the intake manifold side

Sounds like either a major exhaust leak, or the turbo shaft isn't spinning. Does the turbo spin freely? Did you torque the manifold and down pipe to spec?

Thats a broken wrist pin or rod bearing or broken piston skirt to me.

That's not good! It could definitely be a spun bearing. If you are hearing the sound up top on the intake side, take the valve cover off and take a look, if you don't see anything obvious it's time to pull the motor.
