what is the loudest exhaust?

i give props to the Tanabe Racing Medallion. that is one f'ing loud exhaust. my buddy has it on his prelude, with floored gas going down a 2 way street, with cars parked on both sides, he set off half the car's alarms on that street. that thing gets insanely loud when he's at higher rpms, and it sounds ok at idle. not only that, but u could really feel the difference when he put the exhaust on, in contrast with his highly restrictive honda stock peashooter.

N/A cars will always be louder than turbo cars because turbos act as a muffler. I admit Tanabe Racing Medallion sounds pretty good, but I just couldn't bring myself to put that exhaust on my car. That is the ugliest exhaust ever designed.

I love the thermal r&d exhaust. i have it on my car. I could hear it from my house up to 1 block south and 5 blocks east. It has a very low rumbly groaning tone which i love. It is one of the best exhausts made for the eclipse. I dont have apic on this comp yet because i havent installed my digi cam but i might soon. The exhaust looks just like a big stainless steel snake udner your car. I also have a apex-i gt ss downpipe with no cat. Id buy it! heres a pic next to the stock exhaust

Yup, Thermal rules. The full stainless with a rounded tip, with strait threw design. I'm sure the front wheel drive cars are a lil different but the AWD thermal only has two slight bends after the 02 connection, the rest is strait. It almost looks like it belongs there. I have a nice picture of mine in the gallery....

Is the ATR system really that loud? I am getting a really good deal on one and am going to pick it up this weekend but I don't want it to be too loud. Anyway, anyone have any links to sound files for this exhaust?

I have full 3" Thermal R&D here. It looks really nice, and it sounds awesome. Sometimes I actually wish it were a little more quiet. It's kind of hard to sneak in my neighborhood late at night.

Well this should narrow it down alittle more. the buschur and atr are the same exhaust. if you look at them together they are made exactly the same. and in my buschur installation guide it says "how to install a 3" ATR exhaust."

Well, mine on my AWD isn't one you can buy, but it makes great power and sounds great too. I work P/T at a muffler shop, so i do my own work.
An Apexi N1 3"downpipe, 3"inlet 4" body Dynomax Bullet muffler where the cat went(looks stock like incase of smog patrol) 3" to a Y pipe into dual 2 1/2 out to chrome tips on each side of the car. not too loud inside, very good resonance sound outside.
total cash $250. you can hear the turbo spool down for a long time after shutting the engine off.

They're not the same, they use different mufflers, which is why the ATR is louder.

I have a full turbo-back 3" straight pipe with a test pipe going into a tanabe racing muffler. It has a really deep grumbling idle, and when I get on it I can be heard for miles. The best thing about it is that no matter what rpm i am at it still retains that deep sound. My friend has the same thing on his 95 turbo except he has the n1 muffler. I'll admit his is a little louder, but it is more of just noise than an actual tone. So if you want loud and a good sound id go with the tanabe, but if you just want all out noise, go with the n1.

Didn't you have to modify the thermal exhaust to fit the 3" downpipe on it?

The way it sets off car alarms is becasue the exhaust creates a resonance or a vibration. it is just like going up to the car and kicking a tire or shakeing it. i drove a 12 second 68 dodge dart i built to school everyday, and i would set off about 8 alarms just pulling in the lot.

its a little late for this reply but I just had to do it :D

i have the SUPER racing medallion, the new spec one....yea.....its like the prototype and stuff so they hadnt refined it yet. i have a ghetto rigged HRC cat on the end of a N1 downpipe. the HRC cat is basically a really expensive 3 inch cat with some catalyst taken out.

in hind sight i wish i didnt have a loud setup. i set off car alarms no matter what i do sometimes. i pulled into the anaheim mitsubishi lot to check out the evo 8 and set off a row of like 10 cars.

cops look at you and a lot...last time i got pulled over the cop said he couldnt hear his police radio over my exhaust. so basically i get to pay 180$ everytime i screw up. (yea the exhaust is carb legal but thats assuming the silencer is in)

another downside....girls ive met hate it...the really cool ones get wet by it but its safer to just buy the evo and get a cutout.

 thats my kinda gal

This is also kinda late but I got that ATR system I was talking about. Maybe I got the weird one but it's not loud at all. At idle if you walk more than 10 feet away in a parking lot you can't hear it anymore. It does set off car alarms but it's mostly cause of the deepness of it not the actual vloume. My friend with the Thermal is louder than mine both at idle and at WOT. I must admit that this thing sounds sick after 4k though. And it sounds even better on video, gotta see if Hooksh can get it on the net for me.;)

I just put on a 40-series flowmaster on my 4g63 turbo mightymax and it sounds sweet. I also have a dump tube which adds to the obnoxiousness. My neighbors and parents hate it, but I think it sounds rather nice. It makes it so you dont sound like a honda. It sounds more deep and not so ricey.
I recommend Flowmaster and custom piping.......
thats my .02

I am looking for the queitest exhaust with the best performance.

I am also going to lower the car 1-2 inches and was wondering if there is any exhaust that doesn't drag? That is not so important though, I just want a super fast silient stealth car. If anyone has any numbers in DB or HP to show the difference over stock it would be much appreciated.

quietest would have to be the greddy evo or a custom exhaust with a bunch of resonators if u dont wanna use a silencer or u could use one but that could hurt performance

Quietest with best ground clearance would probably be bosal with 2 resonators added and a high flow cat.

Loudest with good ground clearance is Bosal with no cat and as delivered with no resonators.

I did'nt realize that it is a good 3" ss exhaust untill I put one on for someone.

No sharp bends, SS tube and a low restriction muffler. = efficient... Yes probably loud with no res or cat. But likely no louder than a similar system.

The key to ground clearance is the mufflers external resemblence to OE. It does have an inlet on the left side but a straight thru core continues at an angle to the outlet. The muffler hangs as high as stock. The pipe that pases under the rear crossmember is probably betwen 1/2 and 3/4 of an inch lower. Just due to the diameter increase.

alright i was wondering what the loudest exhaust exhaust is. i dont want to be like those civics with only 100 hp and make that annoying sound. so if any of you have and exhaust and it is LOUD please let me know because i want the best and the loudest. thanks.

Like the other guy said, the loudest exhaust is none! So bolt off the entire piping under your car, then cut a hole in your hood, and bolt the header on upside down so that the 4 into 1 pipe comes out of your hood, that should do it :D LOL!
