What is Legal / Allowed in CA?

Since Santa Clarita is just 20 mins away, Yes there are plenty of things you can do to " mod" your GSX and not attract too much attention.

The SD guys, and SF guys have it much worse off than then the area you're going to.

You can easily throw on a turbocharger, so long as it fits under the heat shield, most techs don't even look too hard. FMIC's are allowed even without a CARB number, since the car originally came with a Sidemount intercooler.

Get an Intake with a CARB number. Period
Keep your stock exhaust, you'll need it when you re-smog.

Suspension, you can , lower the car they won't bother you.

SCV cops? want to be ignored? keep the exhaust quiet, don't drive like an A55, and turn the music down...oh yeah and if you're of the Caucasian persuasion, and not out cruising in a "wife-beater" with the Brim of your hat pointed any other direction but forwards, you should be ok.

WOW so the front mounts are legal in california since we had a side mount? Thats news to me honestly LOL.

I am thinking a MBC is not an issue in CA (it can be removed very quickly if needed).

Probably an EVO3 turbo would not be noticed (it looks stock).

One possibility, is nitrous. Not sure about legality in CA. It is one of the questional items in many places. Not allowed, but if it is not being used at the time it is just along for the ride.

I am thinking that essentially, as long is there is not much bling, it will be acceptable.

Exhaust seems difficult in CA. Probably as long as they see the Cat and O2 sensor, things like downppie and o2 housing can be changed.

Then the "stealth" items can be done. I am not sure if there are items like stealth airbox which essentialy look stock, but are opened up to flow a lot more air.

I am hoping for exhaust I can get something that is legal, but flows well, and is quiet. The loud mufflers are a dead giveaway that something is modded.

This should be a fun and cheap project.

Yup, so long as the vechicle had an intercooler to begin with, it's:thumb:.

You'll be fine in SCV, exhaust still isn't an issue, just don't run a tubular manifold, and keep it kinda on the quiet side, no N1 style mufflers.

SCV is Cake, since San Fernando, and Northridge are so close they really don't pay much attention to DSM's mostly Bald heads, up to no good.

Is the car too loud? Why exactly do they stop you? Realitically, I don't think a deputy could look and tell the difference between a T16 or a T25 turbo let alone know which was used which year.

I mean, in general, don't the police have to have a reason to stop you?

All the sheriffs know my car and will find a reason to stop me if I let them tail me. It isnt too loud I even have my silencer in. I had one sheriff try and argue that my T-25 was not stock.

This is one of those times that you just say "prove it."

I did argue with him for a bit but I had my dad yelling at me in the back to shut up, however I didnt wanna argue too much cause he did have me for intake and exhaust :notgood:

This same sheriff said that I "looked" like a racer cause of my gauge, exhaust, sticker and the plush doll I have in my back seat... Also said He came after me for exhaust when i know for a fact he spotted me cause I forgot to turn my lights on :ohdamn:

its california nothing is legal there anymore

By far the most BUTTHURT state

Oh no prob. If your gonna park it you'll be alright. It's just that since ca has expensive registration or something along that line a lot of people register out of state to avoid the fees. So cops pull over to check.

Dude, you can't be pulled over for out of state plates. Straight from the mouth of an Administration of Justice Professor that happens to be a retired chief of police.

Today I had a strange conversation about this. The car will first be shipped to my house in CO before it goes to CA. In 2008 it had Colorado plates. It still has a CO title. However, it has been in Switzerland and has Swiss registration. CO told me I can only drive on Swiss plates for 90 days and then it has to have CO plates.

I am wondering how long I could get by with Swiss plates in CA.?

Also, if you can come up a name of a person/or contact info who can verify that they have in fact passed a ref inspection with FMIC, or talked themselves out of getting reffed due to the language of the smog book, please do.

I hate to break it to you guys, but it's just not true.

Proof enough?

And I have passed Smog, twice with an FMIC. FP B 28 looks stock enough for a state Ref after coming off of "NoN-op" status.

And from ARB's webby http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/replace.htm
