Hi, im new to the import scene and pretty much the only reason that i stumbled onto it was because (long story short) a friend of mine gave me a 1990 Talon TSI AWD 5spd for free. When i got it it wouldnt start, it had no compression, so I tore the head off to find that all 16 valves were bent so i got a re-maned head off ebay and put it all back together and it runs great.

Anyway i was curious to what combination makes these cars a fast street car, i dont really know much about turbo motors but i pick things up quickly, im used to working on my 71' Chevelle that i built from the ground up.

There are already some mods on this car:
FMIC w/ Hard Piping
Manual Boost Controller
TD05 16G Turbo
2.5" Turbo Back Exhaust
Possibly an upgraded fuel pump (Thing whines like crazy) But Stock injectors

A stainless turbo manifold is on the way.

I Apreciate the Help, thanks, Cam

you have a decent amount of power upgrades already. you will want to work on finishing the fuel system and then worry about a tuning device.

man you lucky dog i cant believe someone gave it to you. but welcome to the import world i think you will like it. good luck with the car

first of all welcome like the previous person sd finish the fuel get injectors 550 or above and a fpr find out what kind of fuel pump is in it if it is a walboro 190 you don’t need a fpr if its something higher u need it (fuel pressure regulator) some warning gauges (boost, and egt at least) a tuning device to control the fuel and a good tune that right there should get you to 325-350 depending on the things you do get I’m pretty sure if you do a search you’ll find tons of stuff on this material

read about the car you have and look to the right hand side of the screen on the ^^^^^ above link to see the upgrade path most comonly used good luck :thumb: hope this helped

After building a Chevelle, I'm sure you know that you can always spend way more than planned building a car. Set a budget, and a goal. DO THIS FIRST. I promise you that if you don't, you'll end up with either a half finished project that you're sick of and don't want to put more money into, or a finished project that isn't as fast as you want, and that is stuck that way until you spend a bunch more money.

Get a budget, we can help you with the plan. you can make this car anywhere from the 240hp car it is right now (total guess... probably pretty close though) up to whatever you want.

The other thing is that your "power combo" is a V8 thing. In this i mean N/A V8s make power when you match the right cams, with headers/exhaust/timing/injectors/ etc.

DSMs are similar, but not the same. It is ALL in the tuning to decide how much power the car will make. I can buy the best street turbo, cams, exhaust, etc... but until you can properly control the engine, you're just guessing. (and this guessing can blow things up)

I agree, there is alot of information to be found on upgrade paths here. Personally I would go with the larger injectors first.

Right on, Greg.

Ummm, I don't think thats the greatest idea to go with injectors first.

I would say do ALL the maintenance first. This will mean that your car will be very reliable when you start modding it. After all the maintenance is done, I would say tuning device would be the best mod first, logger, and S-AFC II or DSMLink, and logger. After that I would go injectors, be sure of the fuel pump you have, saying its winning could mean its on its way out or its a Wally 255, the 190s are pretty quiet but the 255s wine. If it is a 255, it will over-run the stock FPR at idle, and cruise, and this is a bad thing. Check out the modroutes in the tech section that was provided earlier. Also on an added note (example), if you stick with a 16G, don't get a cam, that is going to take away from your low-end, and only add to 4800rpm+, go with some cams like 264/272, that will provide you with some gain up top, very minimal low-end loss, and provide a great power curve on a 16G that drops off around redline.

Thanks a lot, Keep um coming:thumb:

btw, I do have an Air/Fuel Ratio, Boost/Vac, and oil pressure guage

Also, as it sits, according to the Air/Fuel gauge it runs rich w/ 18psi of boost

If that air fuel gauge is of the blinky light variety, it is essentially worthless.

Do you have a goal? maybe a quartermile time, or a horsepower goal. Or just a budget and say, make it as fast as possible for XXXX amount of dollars. Really I need something to work with here.

Id like to have the car in the mid to low 12's in the 1/4 mile.

Air/Fuel is not a wideband its the autometer lean/stoitch/rich type

that is not going to be of much help to you. A half point of AFR difference will make quite a difference on a turbo car. with that setup and some injectors and a way to tune i would expect you could approach the 275 to 300whp range and run in the high to mid 12's without too much trouble. Take a look at my setup in my profile. I have a 3200lb 95Tsi in the 12's on a small16g. I would highly recommend getting dsmlink. It is a pricey item but worth every penny and will save you a lot of headaches in the long run should you get hooked on these turbo 4's...and you will. I had a 400hp 80 corvette for 4 years before i got this and though i do miss that car i will never look back.
