what i found while doing my timing belt today.

This is a pic of the balance shaft belt that I found while replacing my timing belt I have know idea how long it was broke but I guess I got lucky and it didn't f*#k up my engine.

And THAT is why I hate the balance shafts. Its basically a cheap, unreliable way of balancing the engine. Not to mention it spins at 2x the R's as the engine, so when your at 7k, they are at 14k!
 
yea I wasn't going to do a balance shaft removal but that changed my mind wene I saw that.
 
Consider yourself the luckiest man today!!!

when I bought my red 1g awd talon las february, that was the first thing I cut off on my engine....I just opened up the timing belt cover, saw the balance shaft belt and immediately cut that belt off then and there...

Next, I took off my a/c belt.

That balance shaft belt could have costed you your engine.
 
I've seen several through the years that have broken. Of course when I was in the dealership many centuries ago, we could only put new belts on. This was before the advent of balance shaft eliminator kits, or at least we weren't aware of them then.
