I've been serching the forums and have found a lot of usefull info but now i need to verify some things. I have two heads both came off from 1g cars, the blue one came off a turbo 1990 tsi and the Red one (the one with the studs in exhaust side) came out of 1992 eclipse.

The problem with a 1992 eclipse is that i dont know if it was turbo originaly or a non turbo, and then converted to turbo. When i serarched the vin# it came up as non turbo, also the cluster panel is from a non turbo car. But when i got the car it had a turbo, intercooler, eprom ecu etc...

So my question to you guys is, why do the exhaust port look so different? Was the blue one ported out?

Can i use the Red head in my 1990 tsi? I've read the only difference is the cam and the valves are different material.

Also since the owner of the 1992 gs eclipse made it turbo, did he have to change the cams and the valves, for the turbo ecu to work right? Or do i still have to change it?

Im gonna be putting the red head in my tsi tomorrow, i just dont know if i should change to my cams that i know for sure are turbo, or keep his cams that i dont know anything about?

Also how can i find out if the cam is turob or non turbo? Is there a #?

Thanx to whoever has time to answer, respect!!

The one with the blue valve cover has just been ported. They both look like 1g heads. The non turbo and turbo 1g heads are the same other than the cams. You would just want to swap the cams (not 100 percent necessary). You can use either. I would clean up which ever that you are using, lap the valves and install some new valve seals.

Thanks. Thats pretty much what i figured. But what i also want to know is, do you think the owner before me changed the cams when he made it turbo? Cause i know the valve spring on this head are kiggly. How can i find out if the cams are turbo thats what really really bothers me?

I would just measure the lift on the cam and you will know.

Very true. You know the specs? i dont have a book for it. Only the intake is different i've heard, is that true? I would think exhaust should be different also, for a better flow and spool?
