Avoid N/T's and the 3G like aids.

....
4. DONT BUY A 3rd gen if youre straight.

Couldn't have said it better myself get a 4g63T and you wont be dissapointed!

Now, Im going to have to go against the band wagon here and post this...

in the stock form, the 3rd Gen "although you should avoid them if you do not want to get aids" , or that if you get one that itll turn you ghey....

This car is mine, Stock motor (SOHC), with the exception of ARP head studs, Cometic gasket and using an evo 8 turbo setup it put down 300whp and 330wtq at 16psi. Not to shabby I say... (yes i have a dyno sheet)

It is all in what the person wants, but don't bash something that you have no idea what it is capable of.... just my 2 cents :thumb:

Where are you getting this info you just stated? Any dsm can be prone to crankwalk, even 6 bolt auto cars..Crankwalk is really not as common as you would think..Even tho crankwalk probably comes up about twice a day in the forums.

I'm not saying the no other car can get crankwalk. ALL cars can get crankwalk. The STOCK 95-96 Eclipse just seems to occur more often, for some reason.

Sure, you could argue that every DSM comes up with crankwalk on the forums. I'm not doubting that my 97 GST can get it . But again, I could walk outside and find out my truck has it too, or the guy with the Pontiac down the street has it tomorrow, or my friend's Mustang has it next week.

@Kng Nothg,
I apologize for calling 3Gs ugly. Yours is actually pretty good looking.

300whp is still slow, and it's still ugly.

Your 97 has the same block as a 95-96.

Aren't I going to get more traction and agility with an AWD? Maybe even speed?

Not really. Awd will always weigh more. More weight less speed and agility. Heavier cars take harder turns more tire wear/parts wear/drivetrain wear. Fwd will win in the course and strip when properly setup and driven. That being said you live in Washington. Awd is better for the conditions you will see up there. So for your streets get awd. For track fwd;).

Most 3g's are ugly as sin..I should go acrossed town and get a pic of my buddies x's bf's car ..This thing Is more riced out then when I had underglow, and my grey graphics on my car.

Not every dsm will experience CW..Not every car or engine will either..But it can happen is all im trying to tell you..So making a claim that your/ my dsm WILL eventually get CW is false..I'm not gonna continue arguing about it..

Back on the topic at hand.

Don't get your jimmies rustled. A 3G is a terrible platform to start with, it's just a fact.

MJ we're normally on the same sheet of music but im gonna go against you on this. There is no way a FWD is gonna take a corner or run the strip better than a AWD. Unless you dump STUPID amounts of money into suspension that is.
I walked the dog on my buddies Gst around an interstate loop in my AWD. As for the weight difference I know an Awd is 250-300lb heavier but the pros out weight the cons significantly.
OP I have had 4 AWD Dsm's, 3 1G's and. a 95 Gsx. I absolutely love the feel of a 1G. Its almost as if they designed the car around the driver. The steering wheel, the seats, the console and the actual feel of driving make me feel like im sitting in a cockpit of a badass machine LOL. Few cars give me this feeling. Hope this helps

Haha RadDsm, you're quite the character... Nothing rustled.

I've searched your profile, link please?

I'm sorry..Your actually not allowed in that section of the site...But if you pm me..There still in a file on my pbucket.

Well i never said it was easier or cheaper just better;) joe bucci fwd 10.69 14b record. Awd are all still in the 11s.
Andrew brilliant with his fwd time attack car. No awd dsm near him yet.

You can come here with your awd and run the mountains with me if you wanna test my gst:).

I like awd cars but I'm fwd biased right now. Lol. Ima push this thing far. Can't wait to pay off my coilovers and get that spyder from my friend so i can park this for surgery:)

Like awdtalon said, the pro's highly outweigh the con's. If it's not cheaper, or easier, than how is it better? How can two (or one for that sake) wheel getting power give you better traction and better handling?

You are basing your argument over one person on the top of a 1/4 mile list, on a 14B of all turbos. Yea, there are some guys in the 10's with FWD platforms, but it's far easier, cheaper, and much easier to drive/more fun in an AWD.

And... you have obviously never "ran in the mountains" in a powerful AWD car. Or in a powerful open-diff FWD car for that matter :D

:hellyeah:

Seriously bro? There's no way a FWD can touch AWD with similar mods. I see guys on here all the time with 800hp and 10 second 1/4's. Simply because they are FWD. And when it comes to road racing, I'm pretty sure the car that reset World Time Attack records was the Nemo Evo, which is AWD. I didn't see Brilliant's GST out there (even though he did the aero work for Nemo). I also don't see how GST is more nimble considering it has 2 less driving wheel, is more nose heavy, and has the same 5-link suspension design. Weight doesn't mean squat when you don't have traction. Trust me, I own and drive both a FWD and AWD.

On the topic of 95/96 engine blocks- I built my 95 block using the stock crank. It's been almost 6k miles of driving it like I stole it. No crank walk yet. I honestly don't even think about it.

Meh y'all are probably right I'm sure im just trying to support the fwd guys while I'm with them. Although with being nose heavy if you know what your doing you can use that to your advantage. Left foot braking swings that back around nice.

I've not driven either in the mountains yet. Last mountain run i did was in a 77 vette LOL. Only country roads since. Me my friend and brother are supposed to do another sometime. Already would have if my bro didn't wreck his lexus.

It's controversial some with more experience than me say done right fwd can hook better others say awd.

And if my fwd was really powerful i wouldn't be running it with open diff it'd have a wavetrac.

And the crankwalk thing is made to be too big. I have 22k on my 95 block and it's been driven hard every now and again. Def not been babied.

Okay. We were just at a misunderstanding. I was trying to say that any car CAN get cwalk, not that they WILL get it. We were arguing for the same side.

But as for the FWD and AWD conversation, is the GSX really THAT much faster than the GST? I hunted for 6 months before I could even find a GST in good condition, let alone a GSX. Would it be worth a swap in the long run to try and get ahold of a GSX?

Personally i wouldn't stress that much over getting a gsx. A gst can be alot more fun to drive and do alot more than most ppl think. You'll learn to be a better driver with it as well. Its a better teacher than a gsx as you have to control what you do more carefully and use more technique. But I guess that just my opinion.

Very true MJ! My first turbo Dsm was a POS laser I picked up for a few hundred dollars. By far it was the funnest car ive owned. I beat the shit out of that car for a little more than a year and it took every bit of it. Fwd are definitely more challenging to drive and keep on the road.
MJ does have a good point Fwd would be a good starting point for someone new to Dsm's. But ultimately it boils down to the OP's preference.
