What does the plug on the alternator do? i found out that was my problem with the battery drain and not starting with a new alternator and battery. My volts with the plug connected it a steady 11.00 and with it off its a 13.5?? Also with the plug on the car wont start like somthing drained the battery with it off it has power and turns on whenever? What does this plug do?

Do i have time to drive it like this until Friday that I get the time to go the junkyard to pick a new plug up? The closest junkyard is about 30-40 miles from my house, I go to school and work most of the day. An would this have anything to do with why my car wont start after about 5 hours off? See after this time the car wont crank the car has battery but when i turn the key over nothing happens as if i don't have the clutch down (or a seized motor and the flywheel wont spin) when i try to crank, after about 4-6 times finally the motor kicks in and turns on, and drives close to perfect.

Wow my head hurts after reading that...anyways...Theoretically you could drive it as long as you can get it to start. Once it is started the alternator will keep the battery charged. I know because my battery is starting to die on me. With the car off none of my lights or anything work until I start the car then it all starts working and my windshield wipers go slow and if I have my headlights on when I hit the brakes they flicker real fast. So in answer to your question as long as you can get the car started you can drive it but I would be careful what you run. Just use the basic's. Meaning if you have a system or something I recommend not turning it on to save the battery and try not to run up against the power steering lock either. Anything that would make the car have to work more.

What does this power steering lock do? And as defiant was saying that It bumps up engine speed under load to keep the power steering from killing the motor, how would the power steering kill the motor? Just a question.

It's when you turn the wheel all the way to one side of the other. Try is sometime at an idle. Turn the wheel as far as you can one way and it should whine a bit and pull down a hundred rpm's for a second until the computer compensate's for it. When you turn it that far the pump has to work so hard to push so much fluid and the engine is only turning the belt 8-900 rpm's that it wants to kill the motor when you do it.

Oh, i thought he meant kill the motor as in blow it or somthing. Silly me! Well now to find out why my car doesnt start after 2 hours and the batter is fully charged?

So your battery is fully charged before you start it. How do you know? Are you checking it with a volt meter? I would check it first to see the exact voltage before and during starting. Also is it cranking and not starting or turning the key over and it is just draining the battery?

I carry a volt meter in the car with me at all times.

Plug on volts ~ car on 11.50
car off 10.00 and draining (battery)

Plug off ~ car on 13.5volts
car off 12.20 volts (battery)

Its the plug my problem.

Not the plug but the wiring of the plug. Since you have a voltmeter test the individual wires and figure out which was has a short in it and find where it is.

I can visually tell and now it all makes sense now, see my last alternator had a voltage regulator problem, and i guess it melted the plastic off 3 of the 4 writes, they really never touched until recently i never saw it happening till my problem started. And if you take the plug out in the middle 2 of the holes have a black line running from one another, as if it sparks and left a burnt residue, i have to get a new plug and match up the cables its my best bet and i hope thats were the problem and not further down the harness or even worst the ecu  ?

I dont think this question really got answered since it took me 30mins to find this post I wanna make sure it gets answerd LOL.

Now Ive been having some problems with my oil light coming on and im thinking this may have something to do with it. One day I found the plug mentioned in this post was unplugged from my alternator and the clip is broken so it wont stay plugged in what exactlly do these wires do ?
