Post back with pics of all the runners. The pics you posted are pretty good, but if you don't have them symmetrical throughout, you might as well make the head a big paper weight!

I would take a high grip paper by hand to finish the ports smooth in my opinion looks good but if you do this i think you will be impressed to see the difference

ill have more pics tomorrow, i plan on finishing up the intake side of it then. Here is a quick pic of what i got done before i called it a night.

You want a little texture to the intake ports. You don't really want them "polished"...but the exhaust runners, make them a mirror if you can!

Looking good. I take it your doing a basic deburr and smooth job? Are you port matching as well?

If you go much more than that you can use some thick poster board / cardboard as a template when you do your first runner and then place the templates into the rest of the runners as you grind them so they all come out roughly the same. That won't help you guarantee good flow but at least they would be evenly shaped the same so they all flow the same.

I knew a guy years ago that made a flow bench for checking small engines like the 5 hp briggs motors he ran on his gokart. He just used some clear tubing with colored liquid and a yard stick to make a manometer, a large shop vac with an adapter to attach to the exhaust port, and a few hand tools like a dial indicator to know the valve lift. Cheese ball racing? Yeah but it did give him an idea if he made an improvement.

Yes i will be port matching as well, i have a 63mm tb and a evo iii intake to go with this. Im going to match all of them together, this combo should work well together for a dd. :hellyeah:

Hey, that looks great but let me know where you find an evo3 IM. Been looking as a slight upgrade over my 2g. Finding nuthin

Clean up the combustion chambers and it will be very good. Nice job and looks pretty symmetrical.

Thanks for the complements, i plan on cleaning the chambers and i still need to clean up exhaust ports also. I got the evo 3 intake from my buddy along with the 63mm 1g throttle body.

You do know there will be a LOT of work to get the Evo3 I/M to match the 1g ports, right? The Evo3 ports match the 2g head, which are much smaller ports. People have done it, just wanted to ask to make sure you knew.

Looks great!! Cant wait to see the finished product. What are the porting/sanding tools that you are using? I have a spare head at home and am interested on doing this myself.

Looks like you used a grinding stone? It looks pitted looking like a grinding stone would do to aluminum. I would run a sanding drum thru there and leave the sanding drum finish. However, im not a professional so please dont get offended.

Its a 2g head not a 1g and i use metal carbide bits with 6" shanks. I can post some pics of the tools i used tomorrow when i get back to work.:hellyeah:

That evo IM will flow PLENTY. Did some research on smim vs stockers. IMO the evo3 is best bang for the buck by a longshot. I didnt know that was a 1g head, so you will have a lot of work cut out but itll be worth it

AHH 1sloevo said it was a 1g head, my mistake. Your good to go brother.
You can count on a solid 5lbs/min flow gain after head work and that IM. Keep us posted.
