Hi guys, I am new to DSM's and would like to ask what I need in order to get my car into the high 11's- mid 12's. I have a 95 tsi awd and currently have full 3" turboback exhaust, injen intake w/big k&n filter, bov, and boost gauge. I am about to do the complete timing belt change my car has 90k original miles. I would like to be able to get about 20 lbs of boost and would also like to be able to daily drive my car without putting my motor at risk. My friend is telling me while I do the timing belt I should go ahead and do head studs, head gasket, and motor mounts if I plan on putting a bigger turbo on. For some reason I just dont feel like its necessary for what im looking to get out of my car.

Concentrate on running 13s before you worry about 12s and 11s. It's going to take a lot more work and money than you think to hit 12s and 11s. Do all maintenance first then come back and start asking about performance.

Well im wondering what I need to do once i've done the timing belt. And also, just to run 12's, is it necessary to do head studs, head gasket and motor mounts? because I would rather spend my money elsewhere if it its not. Other than the timing belt I have done all of the maintenance on my car. It is running great but I know the timing belt needs to be done and I plan on doing it within the next week. Is it safe to run 20 lbs on a 16g with the addition of a fuel pump, injectors, fmic, and 02 housing? or am I going to put my motor at risk? this is basically all i want to know. I somewhat know what i need in order to do a bigger turbo but i want to know if its necessary to do the head studs, head gasket, and motor mounts?

+1 on Maintenance.

Next on the list, Research some info first.

Come up a plan and Goal settings, re-evaluate if necessary.

Now, you may be ready to start with questions on Mods, Parts, where to find the "best" deals etc..

Overall, Enjoy each moment!

In my opinion, which is shared by others on this site, why would you not do these things while you are already putting money into it? Do it once, and do it right! How would you feel if as soon as you take it to the track you blow the headgasket because you were too cheap to do it right the first time? :ohdamn:

^^ well thats what i wanted to know. I just wanted some insight. Ok, head gaskets and head studs are something I will do when changing the timing belt. But motor mounts are another 300 dollars is it really necessary to do the motor mounts? Im not trying to be cheap im willing to do whatever it takes to keep my motor safe while also being on a reasonable budget

And honestly I wont even be taking my car to the track. I was just giving a ballpark range of where i want my car to be at. I dont even abuse my cars I just want something thats going to be reasonably quick. nothing ridiculous

Thanks a lot for the help. And those inserts are much more affordable. That is probably what I will go with. Also, my friend reccommended the cometic head gasket. Its about 90 dollars? Do you reccomend this head gasket or are there other brands that are just as good for a better price?

going to the 12's, you definitly need head studs so then you might as well get new head gasket and inpect your internals, unless it'll start to pull the head off the block reaching high hp, and 12's usually give you higher whp numbers. also depends on how you drive.

bigger turbo/manifold
intercooler/pipe
injectors
pump
afpr
high boost
and dsmlink will get you there easily

would a 14b with all of these supporting mods get me in the 12's? Or what turbo would you reccommend. and again, thanks for all of your input
