what can i use to quiet down my exhaust

i was wondering what i can do to quiet down my exhaust im runing headers and a test pipe and also an air mass exhaust with a 5 inch tip and 2 1/2 piping. i was told if i got a resonater welded in it would quite it down? also i was told if i welded in a glass pack it would do the same. i have already been pulled over for my exhaust and luckely he gave me a warning. i want to quiet it down because it is very stupid loud like you can hear me 2 blocks away loud. and also i wake up for work at 500am and it drives me nuts when i have to listen to it that loud. i like my exhaust and do not want to get another one i just want to make it not so loud.

you may also want to try and change out the muffler, go with something like the Greddy SP or the APEXI world sport. Both are good mufflers and will keep you car quiet

How would covering the exhaust with foam make it quieter? It's not a sound booth. All of the sound comes out the back of the car through the muffler.

I had a resonator put on at the same time as my header so I'm not sure if it help to reduce the sound but personally I would go with a different muffler because some are better at reducing noise but keeping the high airflow. I've been told as well that you can hear my car a few blocks away, especially if the sound echos between houses.

I have a 3" tanabe SRM and it's very loud. I went ahead and bought a silencer. Performance didn't suffer too much and I can take it off when ever I want to. With the silencer on, it's very quiet and has a very nice low tone to it.

Not to discredit you, but it would be kind of hard for me to take advice on quieting things down from someone with the handle LOUD91tsi... Anyway, I think you may be hard pressed to find a silencer for a 5 inch tip. Damn thats huge. Anyway, I'd say the way to go would be to go with a muffler that would be designed more for noise suppression rather than storage capacity.

resonators would def. help, if i were you i would add a high flow cat and change the muffler.

any cheaper alternatives? i just got full 2.5-3" thermal r&d exhaust for dirt cheap but damn is this thing loud!

The cheap alternative is you learn how to weld. Find a nice bullet muffler and a highflo cat, along with changing out the muffler at the tip. You guys are running a straight through 3" or 2.5" design and are wondering why it is loud? Come on now, it is quite simple. There is NO barrier to stop the sound from resonating the fart out of the can. I welded in a 21" resonator aswell as changed mufflers to a chambered one. Performance was good and sound was better.

Definitely try running 2 resonators and buy a muffler that has a silencer and use that.
If you don't want to change your muffler see if they make silencers for the muffler you have.

resonators + silencer = Nice and Quiet
