What symptoms should i look for it's a t-25 with rought 160k on it

The easiest check to do is to check for shaft play by taking off the intake pipe and trying to wiggle the compressor wheel with your fingers. In and out, side to side, up and down. If it moves just barely, it should be okay, but if it moves freely, you're looking at replacement soon, especially if the fins of the wheel are hitting the compressor housing. Sometimes if this happens, you'll hear a little "taptap" noise of the blades knicking the housing, especially after you shut off the engine and the turbo spins down.

Oil in the lower intercooler pipe is another early sign of shaft/bearing/seal failure. We're not talking a smear of oil on the walls of the pipe, though. We're talking half a quart or so pooled in the bottom of the pipe and the intercooler. By the time this happens though, the car has usually been spouting whitish-gray smoke from the exhaust after every shift or if it's really bad, constantly.

Checking for shaft play is the easiest way of knowing what genera condition the turbo is in.

excatly what is happening with mine i get on it the turbo spools up an i'll see a cloud of white/grayish smoke between shifts new turbo time huh wanted an upgrade anyways now i got a reason

Sounds like a plan. When mine went out, I had a 14b that I bought from a junkyard and I had planned to put it on a few months later, when I could afford the install kit and stuff. The death of the T25 accelerated that plan a little too quickly, so I had to reason with my parents to get them to buy the install kit for me. "But Dad, if I take it to the dealership, they'll just charge me a whole lot more to do the work and install the same small turbo. BUT I have a bigger, better turbo just sitting there and all I need to do to put it on myself is this install kit."

Of course, they just put it on the credit card with all my other car parts/repairs already on it, which I have been paying back slowly for years.
