What 6x9's REALLY fit in a 2G?

I have Infinity Kappa three way 6x9's installed in the rear, I had to use a hammer on the sheet metal directly behind the speaker opening. the Kappa is extremely large in the back, but actually installed pretty easily after just alittle tapping of the sheetmetal.

How easily does the sheetmetal give to a hammer? I'm asking this because I have a pair of Pioneer 4way 6X9's and the magnet is too deep. Also, If i were to do the whole raising the speaker up with a new mounting bracket, is there a place with instructions on this?

just make a plate and put a componet set in their, you will get better sound and it should help with mounting depth issues

Why even bother with rear speakers at all? If you have any rear speakers, you should be using mid bass. Having full range in the back messes up the sound stage. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I had this same issue and did exactly what you guys have done, i took a hammer and knocked that shit in until they fit. Ended up with a significant dent but they dont rub and everythings good.

Well don't hammer or cut anything. What I did was I took a piece of ABS board, which is a plastic plate, and cut it in the shape of my factory 6x9. Then I cut a hole in the plate the size of my 6.5" speaker I wanted to put in the back. After the hole was cut I put Dynamat on both sides. Drilled the 6.5" in and then attached the plate to the car. It sounds amazing and after trying 13 pairs of 6x9 i was getting frustrated. I'm an installer at circuit city and I actually do this for all the 2Gs that come in.

hasn't anyone heard of a front stage?

100w RMS x2 ch amp ~$130 (or bigger!)
6.5" CDT component speakers I paid maybe $275 for a setup better than any sub$1000 MB Quart components.

and then whatever combo of the zillions availiable for your sub and sub amp.

oh.. leave the stock 6x9's in, and clip the wire leading the 2 way portion.

This is what a real sound system is like. Some go no rear speakers at all cause it skews the the front stage. But most like to have a little rear fill, hence the stock speakers with the clipped wire to the 2-way portion.

this is just my opinion though..:rocks:
rock on!

I run a set of Eclipse Audio 6x9's. Both where able to fit with a hammer.

I've got a set of pioneer 4 way 6*9s. They have a very shallow magnet and just drop in if your not looking to smash in your car( not a bad idea though ). And when i got my car somebody changed the speakers by popping the grill out, now they won't go back in and stay:cry: oh well. But you should just pop the bottom rear seat out w/ the tabs, then there is a bolt or two to undo. and a screw up by the top of the seat. Other than that the hole interior is pretty much a snap on japaneese cheap-O crap panels, while your in there i would highly suggest just cramming a sheet of foam or something for muffling, and you won't have as much rattle if you throw a sub in. ( god the rattle was outrageous in mine!! i just took all my panels out:thumb: sounds smooth and clear now) Good luck putting your system in. Keep on rockin man:rocks:
