ok, i know that this question has been brought up before but i want to know if anyone knows of any new speakers that have come out that really do just drop right in the hole without any modifications...the problem is that the depth of ALOT of 6x9's are too deep for the stock location.

Thanks :dsm:

I think you will be much better off with a 6 1/2 if you don't want to raise the speaker or take a hammer to your car. I have heard they fit much better. I personally used 6x9 and a hammer. To be honest, if you use a slege hammer very lightly and put a rage over where you are hitting, nobody will ever know that you were there. I understand your concerns. 6x9's usually have bigger magnets so if you bought a bracket for 6 1/2 you will not be as limited in speaker choices (and a felt my 6 1/2 kappa components sound much better than my 6x9 kappa 3 ways, same year, etc.) The 6 1/2 had better clarity.

It's really easy to make almost any 6x9 fit...just take a hammer and dent the metal in abit so there is enough clearance....takes like 30 secs and 0 skill.

6.5" in the fronts and 6x9's in the rears in ALL 2g's.

You can dent in the rear for the 6x9's, but you have to realize that you are gonna have a magnet almost rubbing up against that metal.

In most cases, you'll have enough room to mount them, but if they don't fit, you can always space them out.

Do a search for more info, the topic has been discussed in full detail multiple times.

That is not entirely accurate. I install car electronics and have come across multiple where it was 5.25" in the front and 6.5" in the rear, mine is this way as well. The rear is possible to put 6x9's in as the mounting bracket there is a 6x9 size, with a 6.5 in it. Just need to do some cutting. I was thinking perhaps its the larger size speaker in the infinity equipped vehicles, but then my friend has one without infinity that has the larger set. Its also not part of the sound package upgrade cause i have the 6 speaker setup, so im not sure what signifies which speakers you get.

I know for fact that the Kenwood Excelon 6x9 with the dualmag technology fit. The magnet is very shallow.

my girlfriend had some cheapo 6x9s that she wasn't using and since my stock ones were going buh-bye..I swapped them out with NO problems at all. I just put 6.5s in the front.

How easy was it to install the 6.5 speakers? I just bought a pair of 6.5 sony xplod and I want to instlal them myself. Do I have to replace the stock wires that goes from speakers to the deck or just use the stock wires to connect to the speakers? Which would be better for sound quality?

you'll need to get a speaker harness to connect the old wires that went to the speaker to the new speaker

You could also just clip the old black plug off and strip the wire and add a length of speaker wire, tape that exposed part up and put them on a male and female connecter.. its simple.

One more thing, I tried to pry the grill off with a flathead so I can install the speakers but the gril won't come out. I dont wanna damage or scratch it up any further. Do I need to get the enitre door panel off or is there an easier way to get the grill out? Thanks!

you have to take the whole door off. the speaker grill is screwed from the backside, so you will probably end up breaking something if you pry too hard. The doors are easy to take off.

Uhm...6.5s go in the front, 6x9s go in the back. I know Pioneer 3-ways (4-ways? I can't remember which ones I have..) fit just fine in the back. Dropped right in, now mods or anything.

you can squeeze a 6X8 in the front if you do a lil coaxing and with imagination

for 1g owners, the 6x9's and the 6x5's are not interchangable with aftermarket speakers. I replaced all of my speakers in my dsm and much modding was done. The magnets are larger on most aftermarket speakers and so you might want to take that in consideration,-Ben

I have a 95 talon Esi. Lets just say 6x9's wouldnt drop right into the rear. I put 6 1/2 JVC 4 ways in the front and bought Pioneer 4 way 6x9's because i was told they would fit. They didnt, i had either a 5 1/2 or 6 1/2 speaker (cant remember) and i had to cut and grind the speaker mount plus grind the back of the interior panel for the 6x9 to fit.

correct me if im wrong, but the 6x9s in a 2g have a half inch or maybe more clearance before it his the grill. So you could just make a bezel (6x9 ring) much like making a speaker ring. Screw this into the chasis and then screw your new speakers into the ring you made. This would give you more clearance for bigger magnets.

Yes a spacer would work just as well as denting the metal behind the speakers with a hammer, but why go through all the trouble of making one when all it takes is 30 secs and the tap of a hammer.

Larger magnet sized 6x9s are going to be a bi***. I use alpine type r component in front and type s 6x9s in the rear and the magnets for the 6x9s are huge. In the back I banged it out a little and put brackets, and on high volume they hit the goddamn wheel well. I am about to resort to fiberglassing rear panels and make room for one of my alpine type e subs.

For the front I may be doing the same thing. The alpine type-r 6.5 magnet is almost as big as as a goddamn sub, weighs more than my alpine type-e sub LOL. Anyway, I am going to space it out a little more and dynamat the door. I have a 4-channel amp going to my speakers and it makes them rattle like no tomorrow when I turn up the volume and bass. So this weekend I am putting in a second amp with one type-E, maybe two depending on wether they can handle the power adequately.

subs handle the low range
woofers handle mid
tweeters handle highs

Too bad I dont have time this weekend to do any fiberglassing.
