Thought I may have had an issue with my linkage, but the car won't shift into first or second from the trans either.

I have been thinking about whether or not I want to sell the car. After debating with myself over the last couple weeks with the problems I've had, I've decided I'm going to keep it. Pull the motor and trans and build them both. I've built high horsepower cars before, but never 4 cylinder or AWD, so this is where you guys come into place. Can anyone steer me in the right direction for kits on a reliable rebuild for the trans and motor? I'm looking for a 500+ hp build. I have a good amount of cash, but I'm always wanting to save as much as I can! I figure with winter hitting and no racing going on, now is the perfect time to get it done. Going to pull everything this weekend and would like to start ordering parts as soon as possible. Wish me luck on this journey! I have a feeling this site just became my best friend for the next few months! ROFL

So what do you guys think?

I would recommend Raif Racing Transmission, they've built two transmissions for me and they were both amazing! One was a synchro trans equivalent to a Shep Stg 4 and the other was a Dogbox with cryo'd and faceplated gears. PM me and I can set you up with his contact info. His prices can't be beat and his work is AWESOME!

Awesome! Thanks!

to be honest unless you really know what your doing with a transmission it may just be worth it to have someone rebuild it who has experience like sheptrans or something similar. There are only about 1,528 things that you can #### up by doing it yourself if you've never done it before, but that's just me. If your confident I'd say just do an OEM rebuild. Our transmissions are pretty durable when it comes to holding power, its the clutch that usually goes first, so if anything i'd do an OEM rebuild (MAYBE a dual synchro 2nd) and just get a solid clutch for it to hold that kinda power without any reliability issues.

I'm building the engine, but I am having a professional do the trans. I was just going to see if there were any good kits out there that I could buy and then just have the shop install it. I called that raif guy and he actually quoted me more than shep...

Shep trans would be the best bang for the buck

as far as 500hp, just look on here for some build thread's and try to get similar numbers. I would just find a 6bolt block, some je pistons and wiceso(or however you spell it) rods. acl bearings, 3 angel valve job for the head. and off course all your maintence stuff, like timing belt, water pump headgasket etc.

If you were looking for a little bit lower hp, like 400hp, there is a thread on here of someone gettiung 400hp on stock internals, only upgrade was head bolts and headgasket to the actual motor. He did have alot of money in the turbo setup and tuning for the ecu though.

Give Jacks Transmission's website a good look over. The "Stage 1.2" trans with welded center diff is guaranteed to 400hp (but we all know it's good for much more than that). For a few extra $ you could have a 4-spider diff put in which is also good for 400hp+, but doesn't leave you squeaking through parking lots.

Look up twicks69. I think that's his name. He is great guy and does great woek. He actually engineered the dsm double clutch. I went over to his house for trans parts one day and he left quite thebimpression

Thanks a lot guys for all of the info and support. Finishing dropping the engine into the turbo mustang in my garage this week/weekend then going to start on pulling the motor out of the eclipse. I am very excited for this project! Going to be a great learning experience.

If you are on a budget, pull the transmission apart and at least figure out whats wrong with it, a lot of times you can save a lot of money by sending out the gear clusters instead of the whole trans. Shipping wont kill you either. check vfaq.com under drivetrain>1g trans. Thats a very thorough walkthrough.

I second that, pull it apart yourself and determine what’s wrong, and/or buy gear clusters from jack. That will make a rebuild easy. If you can rebuild an engine you can dig into a transmission!

i will agree . i have 0 experiance with the 4g's tranny, but manuals are pretty easy compared to automatics and are really straight forward.

Ill do that! Thanks!

why are some of you guys afraid to do transmission work? if you have the right tools, snap a few pics and number label things you should be good.

just saying, our cars wernt built by the hands of God.

but if God was one of us, im sure he would drive this,
