Ok so I just finished up my five month build, went to go for a beakin ride diving easy except for 1 or two pulls. The car started to idle funny then cut-off would start back up but was running funny. Sounded good while under throttle but wouldn't stay idle. This got so bad I had to feather the throttle to keep it alive. I leave the stop light make it about 1/8th of a mile the it just completely cuts off. I immediately check the timing. It's on and tight but walked all the way to the right. Did not shear or hit anything, so I look at my cam bolts which had come real loose. I tightened them up and tried to start it but nothing. I checked for spark and fuel have those but do you think my timing may have jumped a tooth or two causing a no-start. Like I said belt stayed tight but those bolts came loose. I'm taking it to a shop to get timing and everything checked out. I'm pretty sure timing jumped I just hope i i didn't bend valves.

Do the cams still have the keys/studs (whatever you want to call it) in them that prevent the cam gears from just spinning on the shaft?

And is this on the 420A that's listed in your profile?

Yea... it has the things on the cams to hold it. I didn't think it would jump timing, i'm so confused because it got worse and worse like something was getting loose. I built the block very well and put a freshly rebuilt head on it.

You built the block very well yet you left the cam gear bolts loose?

I would stop and go over everything. Pull all the timing components apart and check and verify timing.

Drop the timing belt, pull the cam gears off.

You may have sheared off the cam gear alignment pins.

Damnit... I did this on some obx ones. I couldn't figure out for the life of me why it wouldn't start before. I thought I had bent valves. Turned out to be i had a sheered pin on my intake cam. BOOO!!! Yea I built the block very very well. Just having issues with timing. I'm going to pay someone to check this out.
