I have a evo3 16g and I am using a tial 38mm wastegate. I was about to weld the flapper shut but I dont know what kind of welder I should use. I have a arc stick welder will this work. I was going to tack weld the flapper and tack weld the flapper arm just to make sure the thing stays closed and the weld dosent crack and break off. Anyone that welded there flapper shut how did you do it and how did it hold up?
Thanks
AJ

A stick welder will work fine. Just stop by your local welding supply store and tell them what you want to weld (steel to cast steel) and they will sell you the right rod to use. Keep in mind you don't have to weld the snot out of it. A couple of well placed tack welds will do the trick. Also, if you don't over do it you can just grind the welds if you ever want to go back to an internal gate. That might be important if you ever want to sell it in the future.
