So what kind of welders are you guys using, and what are your thoughts on it? Do you like what you have or would you rather have something else. I have a Snap-On mm140sl. Absolutely love it, wouldn't trade it for anything. Ill use it till it wont work anymore, and when that day comes ill prob buy another one.

I got a miller 175, and a miller 250. They get the job done. I'm looking on adding a Lincoln Tig machine fo various welding also.

we had a syncrowve tig where I used to work, no one liked it, I thought it ran a great weld for being a tig machine with basic features, it was a tall boy roll around.

I'm thinking I'll use a lincoln invertec tig, small and portable, for the shop.

I picked up a Miller 211 for mig. Started using it and LOVE it.

I'm still up in the air with which tig machine to go with. I need to get some time on miller machines as I spent most of my time using Lincolns. Spent a lot of time with the 185 and liked it.

Im sorry but the snap on is a pos. Own a miller 220v. Would never buy another welder unless it was a miller or a Lincoln. They stand by their name.

The Lincoln 225 is a good machine and can deliver 30 (230) more maximum amps than a Miller Syncrowave 200. The Miller has a better/longer duty cycle which will allow you to weld at elevated amperage levels for long periods (very important). You can get the Lincoln for about $250 cheaper but I believe the Syncrowave is a much better machine.

Both the Syncrowave and the Precision Tig come with a WP17 torch that is only rated to 150 amps, so right out of the box you need to upgrade to an air cooled WP26 that is rated at 200 amps. I suggest buying an external cooler with a water cooled torch though, that way you have a small light torch that can handle just as much current.




Other than that GTAW welding is not for sissy's, it takes a lot of time and money. Some times it is better to pay a professional to do the job than to invest in failure.

$80 Chicago Electric FC Mig from HF. Its a POS!!! It gets the job done. I would like to get a Tig so I can weld Al & SS. I have a Miller Bobcat 225 & Big 50 diesel at work where the real welding gets done.

Craftsman FCAW, same parts numbers as the H&F made in the same factory in china...

complete pos, but i got it for 40 bucks practically new, threw out the cheapo wire it came with and fixed my exhaust for 100bucks less than the mufler shop wanted, so it gets the job done.

runs too hot for most of the sheet metal on our cars, that's my only complaint.

learned on the miller 211 at work, love that thing but i still have a lot to learn.

Mine is a watercooled HTP Invertig 201 AC/DC.

Jeff@HTP was fantastic to deal with, and I haven't had a single complaint about the welder (for personal use).

i have used a miller before and didnt like it and ended up finishing the job with my muscle mig. My snap on has never not done a job that i needed it to. When i get a tig i wont buy anything but a lincoln. I used a miller tig at PRI and dodnt like it at all. Everything iv used thats a miller i havent liked other then their helmets.haha. Thats about the only thing that miller makes that i think is worth the money.

Then it wasnt set right, miller and lincoln are pretty equal in quality. All metal fab shops will use one or the other if they can afford it. The snap on is a j a p welder that they sell for 5 times the price. If you can run a solid bead that holds with that pos i'll be amazed.

So if you've had a bad experience with it and the weld broke then maybe you just cant weld.

Lincoln Electric 3200HD MIG - Cheap little 110v welder, light-medium duty. Does everything I've ever asked it to flawlessly.

I'd love to have a nice TIG setup, but doubt I'll ever be able to afford one that's halfway decent.

Welder by trade smart guy. Its a pos. If i was told that my chassis work was done with that welder i would told you to stick it up your ass. Only reason anyone would buy that welder is because they can get payments. Its a $200 welder selling for 3k. Read any review. Try pulling up to a site with that thing in your truck, they'll tell you to go home kid. If that welder works so great why are you asking what others use? Takes everyone's word for it, cant go wrong with lincoln or miller, parts and maintenance is great.

Yea all of our chassis work was done with it and were in the top 8 fastest cars i believe and have never had a weld break. And just because miller is one of the top names in the industry doesnt mean their the best. I have never had anything break or ever had a problem with my snap on.

I do not like GMAW (MIG) at all. I would only use MIG welding in a manufacturing setting, they are not precise enough for custom fabrication. Some people will say that this is crazy, tons of shops are laying down beads with MIG welders every day with no problem. There is a good reason why GMAW is basically banned from nuclear welding code.

nd just so im not misunderstood. Im not talkin about tube chassis stuff. im talking about braces that we weld to the chassis was done with out snap on. All of our other stuff like toe eliminator, and stuff like that was done with a tig.

My home machine is a Lincoln Square Wave 175. Its fine for anything I need to do at home. If I have something that I need a bigger machine for, I just take it to school where I have access to pretty much anything. Eventually I want to step up to a Dynasty 350 with a cooler or a Syncrowave 350 (love the dynasty for tig aluminum but the syncrowave is a work horse), but I don't have deep enough pockets for that yet.

My PowerMaster 205 is a 200 amp TIG and came with a WP-26 torch.

i got a milermatic 250 with just the turn knobs and not the digital readout and it welds everything i want to mig weld. i got a miller spool gun to weld aluminum too. id rather have a lincoln cause i like there reliable wire feed systems but this one does everything i want!!!
