Hi im new to this forum but not new to Dsm's. A month ago i picked up a 91 talon tsi fwd with 164k on it for $600 bucks. I have i 93 eclipse in my garage thats ive been pulling parts off of to to redo my interior. So two weeks ago i finaly got it licenesed and insured. Its has a Act street clutch and the owner said sometimes i ave to go into 1st and then reverse since the clutch was so tight. So about 5 days after i started driving it daily to school and work it started to grind going into gear. So finaly one night after work it would not go into gear.

so i turned it off. put it in gear and back up. Turn it off again and into first. While driving down the road it felt like i was clutchless shifting. I tried feathering the clutch to see if it slipping and i noticed that it wouldnt pull away from the flywheel. I would have to hold the clutch down for about 10 seconds for it to disengage. I thought it was a bad master cylinder. so i took mine out and checked the seals and they looked good. So i slid it back in because i had to move where the car was parked.

It was shifting perfectly. so i took it out on many test drives. Never gave me any fuss. Then the next day it all came back. Except this time REALLY bad on the grinding. So i let it sit a couple days while i looked it up. And i did a test drive the other day and it was fine again. So i tested all the gears and they were fine. Drove it home fine. But when i went to back it up it would not go into reverse. instead it went to 4th. after multiple trying i magicaly got it into reverse for a brief second. but now i can never get it in. just into 4th

Check the linkages on the transmission for sure. Also check the clutch pedal by pressing and releasing it then reaching down and seeing how much further it pulls up. If your master is worn and the pedal assy is worn it might be why it is taking so much to encourage it to work.

I have only had this happen twice, the first time the clutch plate was in backwards and the second time I had to adjust the clutch pedal to give it more throw into the cylinder and then lengthen my slave cylinder push rod on the transmission and bleed it back out ... shifts fine now ^_^ Not certain about your car but mine has heavier aftermarket clutch which needs more pressure/lift to engage/disengage.
