weird question for you guys

K on my cobra radar detector when i start getting into the boost my damn radar kicks off lasar light and sound, i know its odd as hell but what can i do, tomarrow im grabbing a new one from work and goin around the block but never had a prb with the cobra untill i put it on the talon today. im runnig stock right now and when my gauge hits like 8 that damn thing rings off, any ideas would be helpfull

You shouldn't need a radar detector if you aren't speeding. I had a Cobra 12 Band radar hardwired and it was fine. Of course that was a year ago and was stupid. You shouldn't need one if you aren't trying to get attention.

radar detectors are useless..my dad is a cop and he told me that he and everyone he knows pulses their radar, and just turns it on to get your speed then back off. but to your question thats really strange but i do know that cobra radar detectors are really cheap

The best advice i can give you is to not use a POS radar detector.

Cobras are garbage, to say the least. I know not everyone can afford a $300+ radar detector, but most of the low end models are just a false sense of security. Even high quality ones are a false sense of security to some degree.

I bought my first radar detector a week before i got my license. My current one is a Bell STI Driver. I bought it when it first came out, so i think i paid about $430 for it 4 years ago. It's paid for itself many times over, and if i'm honest it's the only reason i have a license right now.

If you want to buy a decent, cheap radar detector buy a used passport 8500 X50 from ebay, or a used V1 if the budget allows.

I have a Cobra radar detector, and I have not had any problems. Good at detecting radaring signals. Here where I live or anywhere around for that matter, doesn't use pulsing, they just leave them on. It is not like I am always breaking the law, it is just nice to see them before they see you.

First of all, 99% of cops don't do this. Second of all, if your dad did that to a car 1/2+ mile in front of me, even for a split second i would see the pulse and slow down. Those are the situations when a POS Cobra will get you a ticket, and a real radar detector will save your ass.

If you're the only car on the road for a long way and you get pulsed, the cop has your speed. These situations usually arise only at night in my area. In my slow DD it's useless information, just a warning that i'm about to get a ticket. On an open road at night in a 400+whp DSM however, it's very useful information, and i'll leave it at that.

ok sorry for the abreavtions, i also know that cobra are not what they were back then and now are a pos but i had it in my truck so i just threw it in. Also im not using for street racing or anything like that, i have to travel from illinois to indiana to get my kids alot so i do alot of interstate driving, i allways run 73 but if im runing 75 and yes it basically is just peace of mind these days but never hurts when it goes off and i can back down to 73 or what ever.

The highway between Dittmer and St. Louis has the traffic lights synchronized by computer control so that if you drive at the set synchronous speed you can drive for miles in a tight group of cars under green lights. If you drive slower or faster you hit all red lights.

So far so good, but the traffic lights are set for a speed that is above the posted limit. Pretty much everyone in rush hour drives in the tight groups of speeders on the way to and from work and there is no enforcement. However on off hours the lights still encourage driving above the speed limit and tickets are passed out. It's like the Lions and the Wildebeest.

The police enforce the posted speed and the DOT enforce the higher speed. I always drive the enforced speed.

Anyway just like everyone says Cobra's suck. My cousin bought one that suppose to be bad ass, we drove to Fresno which is 2 hours away and that thing beeps for no reason and when we pass by a cop that radar goes off next to the cop. It's crap and you don't need that.
