ok, my 97 gst has been having some weird problems lately, the idle is really bad, it sometimes stays at 500, sometimes stays at 900, or sometimes goes from alomst not running to 1000 repeatedly. when i shut the car off the coolant boils from the overflow onto the ground, and when the coolant bottle is empty there is grey sludge in it, looks like grey powder and water that wont mix so its kind of like a paste, and i can hear coolant boiling in the engine on the left side(passanger side). it has been running rich with black fuel smoke sometimes from the exhauts and a ltft of +7.69 usually. it also has been running hot at high speeds. there is a hesitation between 1500 and 3500 rpm if i dont rev it up a couple times before accelerating, all the problems are worse when the ac is on.

test results:
compression: 130 125 130 127 (all are about 155 at WOT)
block test: no exhaust found in the coolant/radiator
vac leak test: none
boost leak test: none
visual: no coolant in oil, no oil in coolant, no burnt coolant smell, not low on oil, not low on coolant till it boils out.
o2 sensors: good
water pump, timing/balance belts, idler pully, hydrolic tensioner, front engine seals, basically all maintenance when you do a timing belt has been done bout 7k ago.
all timing marks are lined up.
vented hks bov, i know, but its been like that for a long time and i havent had a problem like this, ordering recirc kit as we speak.

what do u think????

It sounds like a headgasket.

Are you saying that the compression is 130 125 130 127? Or is it 155 across the board?

Also, are you sure that it is not oil in the coolant bottle?

from my experience it sounds like a fuel problem, maby fuel filter?
Not experienced enough on 2g's to help a whole lot, other than a clogged fuel system I'm not sure what to say ATM.
has the car been sitting for any period of time?

It is definatly fuel related. Caused by the venting of the BOV. Get that BOV fixed, change your fuel filter and let us know how it runs after that.

edit- Oh yeah, forgot. Does your oil smell like fuel?

ok, here is the answer for the above questions, i have a new fuel filter, it is not oil in the coolent bottle, but yes sometimes the oil does smell like fuel, the readings at no throttle are 130 125 130 127 and at wot they are, i forgot exactly but like 155 150 153 152....... i know the vented bov makes it run rich but like i said, it has been fine for the last 6 months, and just this week it has been acting up. it has not been sitting, i dirve it every day.

what next?

You're flooding your engine something fierce. That's why your oil smells like fuel. Service limits on compression tests are 125... you're close to a rebuild. You'll need to get the BOV recirculated, change your oil and plugs and you'll see a drastic difference in how your car runs.

yeah i got 120k on the engine. i will try plugs and recirc bov and see what happens but that dont explain the other problems. the readings are pretty close to eachother so i dont think thats not a priority right now.

the readings are pretty close to eachother so i dont think thats not a priority right now.
Double negative. :) I'll clarify though. You WILL need to rebuild the engine soon.
