Weird Noise After Tune Up (Belt Rubbing Noise)

I just finished doing a minor tune up on the car (93 Laser Rs N/T) and now I'm getting this weird noise from under the hood that almost sounds like a belt rubbing on something, but I didn't touch any of the belts. All I did was change plugs and wires. By the way, I think I have a bad piston ring in my #4 cylinder seeing as how there was a lot of oil in my spark plug well. The engine hasn't been running perfect by any means, but I noticed a little more power gained from the new plugs and wires, but then what's this weird noise? Any one had this happen to them? I'm thinking that since I had the battery disconnected for about an hour while I was doing the tune up my ECU is relearning/resetting and making the car run like crap for a day or so. That's what I'm hoping anyway...

Its probably your timing belt rubbing against the cover. They have a way of warping a bit over time. Just take care when you tighten it as to not make it rub.

1. Pop the hood and try and isolate where the noise is coming from, inspect the belts for marks. Romove the upper timing belt and check.

2. The oil is most likely coming from the o-thing? gasket for the valve cover. If you want to be sure, do a compression test.

Try some belt dressing/spray...................works for me! just spray it all over the belts.llllllllll

The oil is probably coming for your oil cap. The gasket on the cap goes bad after a while and leaks oil into the plug valley.

My car made that sound right before the water pump went. I would check to see that the belts are tight (not too tight). It sounded like the belt was rubbing but it turned out to be the pump telling me it was going. Good luck
