My engine is giving me a weird idle. i looked at some other ppls threads and it didnt look like my problem. heres the problem. My car revs itself when its idling
jumping from 1k rpms to 2k rpms to even 3k rpms. just revs itself sometimes it starts at 1.5k rpms. i just changed out the camshaft sensor thinking it was that any help would be appretated. thanks

PS my car is not an eagle talon its a 98 Eclipse GS or RS im not sure the guy i bought it from debadged it. im assuming a gs.

does it keep reving up and down? like between 1k rpm and 2k rpm? if so, that's called idle surge and happens to about 90 percent of our cars or so at one point or another. there are a few things you can do to correct it.

or did you mean that the car revs up to 3k rpm and doesn't come back down? first thing i would try doing is cleaning your throttle body.

it revs up and down it will start at 1k and rev up to 2k then drop down then rev up to 1.5k then down then up to like 3k. sometimes when i start the car up its already at 1.5k but when i put in drive everythings fine its only in drive

Really? I have a '92 Laser RS 2.0 turbo with the same issue. My mechanic (I understand stuff but don't try to fix much myself) told me it's the idle air control motor. Chrysler wants 600 freaking dollars for the stepper motor, and they can't get the valve at all any more. I'm told I probably need to replace both.

In the meantime, he just disconnected the motor - still runs fine, but it no longer revs up nicely when it's cold. Just for the heck of it, I reconnected it last week, and it's back to the same old behaviour.

If what you say is true, do I need to replace anything?
