Weird boost issue, please read

On my 96 tsi awd I have a big 28 with 550 cc injectors and all supporting mods etc. I am tuned with safc. When I push on the gas a bit I can hear the turbo spooling and it shows its building boost but hardly moving at all for acceleration, if I floor it you can hear it sounding kind of like the hoses are popping and letting air out.

I did a boost leak test and there sounds like a bit leaking out by the throttle body, other than that it seems ok. What would cause this?

a leaking throttle body gasket, try tightening the elbow to the trottle body. I ended up putting silicone around mine (elbow meets the TB)

A boost leak can cause that. I had my coupler loose. I would try to fix all leaks. Air is definitely getting out. So check all couplers and maybe put rtv on the leak. The throttle body Is a common place to leak.

Did you leak test at the turbo with the throttle body open or close?

Doing boost leak check and fixing all coupler are a good place to start. You didn't state how much you were boosting at full throttle. Could be a open I had the same problem and my turbo was boosting but never pass more than 2-3 psi. Found it was a bad coupler after doing a boost leak.

could also have a leak in the intake manifold gasket, or anywhere on the pressure side of the turbo would do that

A boost leak that big you should be able to hear. If you have a buddy to help. He can put the air in and you can look. I just did a intake mani install and was leaking on the gasket,tb and injector.

The thing is it says im boosting 13 psi on the gauge but no power at all and I can hear it popping. I used to run 20 psi and it did the same thing so I lowered it.
