Im just wondering if any one has any ideas for weight reduction. I have a carbon fiber hood. Any thing would be aprreciated except for take your back seat out. Im not doing that.

get a really light pair of rims. you can also take your cruise control out, i heard the main unit for that is 25lbs or more. if your die hard on weight reduction take out your air conditioning and power steering.

ive taken the cruise control, and the ac out. i took the spare tire and jack out i have volox wheels which are fairly light. Are there any other carbon fiber parts available for our cars? Or does any body know if the fiberglass fenders weight less than our metal fenders. I know 7layers of fiberglass can be pretty heavy. I thought of taking some of the metal out in the doors. I want all weight reductions to be hidden.

I think it's OK to go after things like the spare (got me stuck in my Cobra once though) and the A/C and PS systems, but I really wouldn't start doing things to the structure of the car that would weaken it in case you were in an accident. I'm not trying to be morbid, but these cars are only certified as one star in a side impact (five stars being the highest) so this is an area I'd avoid. You could however start ripping apart all of the carpet, remove the carpet backing, use lighter seats, etc.

Keep in mind that typically every one hundred pounds removed is a tenth in the quarter mile, but is that tenth worth gutting your interior? There's a balance between comfort and performance and if I were you, I'd try to make that tenth up under the hood.

P.S. The 100 lbs. = -1/10 rule is something true in V8 drag cars so please don't quote me with respect to a four cylinder N/T.

Good luck...

Swapping out the seats will make a huge difference. The difference betweem my stock seat and seatbelt mechanism, and my corbeau Forza and 5pt harness is amazing. Stock exhaust components also weigh a lot, so if you haven't gotten a header that would also be a good idea.

Just take your seats out for track days. I know my leather passenger seat weighs about 34 pds. Backs are prolly about 10. Makes a difference. Spare, jack, trunk linings. It all helps.

You guys gave me some good ideas and some good info thanks for the help. Im not going gut the door if its only 1 star rating. LOL that is low.

Glad to hear it. We'd rather have you around a little heavy in the doors than lighter and on your way skyward :)

Keep us posted and let us know how much weight you save.

Just a question, has anyone (that you know) ever completely replaced their body wit carbon fiber? if it was painted you'd never even notice, but the weight reductions would be insane!. Any info?

The price would be insane. Alot of exotics are carbon fiber bodies.

your right the price of carbon is pretty high, but what about fiberglass or uerathane (sp?), they're alot cheaper, also alot less structurally sound, but definately good for the track i would say.

i checked out that canadian website for carbon fiber body parts. Does anybody know what are money is worth over there. I was told our dollar is a dollar fifty over there. I didnt think the price were that bad since parts were all carbon fiber. I wonder how much weight you would actually have to lose to gain a tenth in the quater. Imports quickness comes from the power to weight ratio.

I took out my bumpers, not the covers, but the super heavy bumper. I wouldn't suggest this unless you don't really care about your own personal welfare. I have a first gen. and I lost over a hundred pounds.
Chris.

If you're going for the weight reduction, stop the jelly donuts and do the jenny craig. Or u can start the bulimia :barf:

on my 2gnt i took out...

the back seat w/ seat belts
replaced stock seats w/ light racing seats
spare tire and all tools
sound deadening
got REAL carbon fiber mirrors (weighed like .2lbs)
carbon fiber hood
light rims (for track use only)
lighter apex exhaust
lighter rotors

with these weight reductions and the following mod list i ran a 15.6 w/ a 2.2 60'

AEM CAI
Header
custom 2.5" flexpipe
apexi dunk exhaust
fidanza flywheel
AFX UDP
ho-flo cat
