It will all depend on your skills, if your a novice that doesn't plan on practicing much but you want a good quality gun which is easy to shoot out of the box you have several choices, a glock comes first to mind. the caliber is just preference. a .45 will require alittle more practice (usually) to be proficient at shooting. My personal favorite is the H&K USP .45, but that is just alittle bit out of your price range. PM me and i can give you a few more possible options.

I beg to differ. The situation I was talking about earlier where my dad had to use his weapon on duty was two state troopers shooting a guy from less then 20 foot away shot him 12 or 13 times with their 9mm and he still didn't even fall down. Dad shot him twice with the .45 and killed him.
