Weapons owners Check-in [Merged 10-6]

I've been spending my money on weapons lately now that I'm out of Kalifornia. (fawkin AWB) At least they won't depreciate as much as cars/car parts, computers, and electronics. My newest fun toy; Armalite M15A4 CB. flat top 1:9 16" with middy Armalite 1913 rails. Added an Eotech, BUIS, grip, VFG and some other stuff. Picture turned out like ass, I'll have try again.

Is that a H&K 23? If it is how do you like it?

Hey I was thinking about getting a ruger revolver, where you can swap cylinders between .22LR and .22mag, anyone have experience with it?

My dad had one of those Rugers and gave it to me. It's really fun and has never had a problem. If you have horrible weapons cleaning habits like he does (i.e. NEVER) the empty brass starts to stick in the cylinder and it's a real bi*** to use. Keep it clean and it's flawless and even accurate.

Looking at all you guys guns makes me want to buy another one. My first and only gun, a Springfield XD9 with 2 15 round clips.

Here's some of my stuff.

First pic is my G17 with a few #32 clips and some #17s.

Second pic is my "Cobra" knife.

Third one is my "Termite"

Fourth is my club

Fifth is some of the stuff I have laying around. My old bow, a couple 12ga's, a 20ga, a bb gun or two, my hammer, my stave with hidden blades, some nunchuks I made when I was a kid, and a couple knives.

ltvarney, I don't know if you knew but that "Cobra Knife" is the exact same knife carried by one of the kids who shot up Columbine back in '99.

I saw "Elephant" today (Freakin sucked ass) and decided I wanted to read the real story since the movie is waaaaaay off. They had pictures of the weapons that the kids carried and I recongnized the picture you posted LOL.

.

Man, I had no idea. Whenever I look at it, it reminds me of the knife from that old-ass movie "Cobra" with Sylverster Stallone. One of the baddies in that movie had a knife like that. The knife didn't have a name on the box (besides Made in Pakistan ROFL ) so that's what I wound up calling it.

Well, I've got this sudden urge to purchase a handgun. I did some research and talked to my co-worker (he used to sell guns) and he was talking about getting a 1911 .45 handgun. So, I did some research about it and it looks like the Springfield 1911 looks good. Wanted to know what you thought of this choice, I will only have about 600 bucks in my account when this happens. Also, are there any websites on beginners' ownership of a handgun, showing how to clean it and stuff like that, the parallel of vfaq? I've looked at the forums and they are too complicated for me as of now. Also, there is a handgun ban in my city that will come into effect on Jan 1, so I don't have much time. Thanks.

My buddy wanted one and I got a call from him one morning asking if I wanted to go to the gun shop to look at a few. We ended up buying the smith and wesson .40, it just seemed like it fit in the hand so nicely and has a nice weight to it. It was about $600 out the door with some ammo. :dsm:

Check out the Kimber 1911's? I'm not sure of pricing though.

Although I am a newbie in the dsm circles I can speak on this with alittle more authority then most since I have over 250 various handguns and longrifles. As well as having worked for 5 yrs as a gunsmith apprentice. It will all depend on your skills, if your a novice that doesn't plan on practicing much but you want a good quality gun which is easy to shoot out of the box you have several choices, a glock comes first to mind. the caliber is just preference. a .45 will require alittle more practice (usually) to be proficient at shooting. My personal favorite is the H&K USP .45, but that is just alittle bit out of your price range. PM me and i can give you a few more possible options.

Not really much concern about that. It won't survive the courts.
The S&W .40 apparently hits harder than the Colt ACP .45, if you think that's what you're shopping for.
Down here on Earth, it matters more that you can use a weapon than what the bench-shooters say a given one will do. One that's comfortable to shoot, easy to control, and cheap to get very, very, very much practice with will be of much greater utility than a Desert Eagle point-five-oh that'll take itself out of your hand with the first shot.
And don't rule-out a nice used weapon.

But if you think you're going to get in ahead of the "ban", you'd better get on the stick.

Once this thread moves from hardware to politics, it will be closed.

I've had my eye on an HK USP .45 for quite some time. One of these days when I have an extreme excess of money I will own one :)

Whatever type of gun you get, make sure it's at least a .40 or .45. If you are looking for a gun that will defend you if needed and make sure the person doesn't get up, go with the 40 or 45. A lot of people will talk down about the Glock .45 but in my opinion it's a very good gun. A lot of stopping power and is relatively light weight. My dad carries this as his duty weapon and has had to use it. And it has A LOT better stopping power than the 9mm or other smaller caliber guns.

The question I'd ask is, what do you want out of the gun? Concealable? Fun range gun? Starter gun? Is ammo cost a factor for you? Stopping power?

The 1911s are nice weapons, and are the most highly modifiable type out there from what I have seen, but if you are a smaller build person, or not used to shooting .45, this might not be right for ya. That and .45 is a more expensive load than .40 (see Defiant's comment on power) or even a 9mm.

I originally bought an SW9VE 9mm for myself and the wife as our "starter" pistol/home defense/multipurpose handgun, but soon found that I wanted something with more stopping power. I picked up a Glock22 and fell in love with .40cals. The ease of cleaining was second to none, and the reliability is near legendary.

That being said, I sold it almost a year later as I now plan to do conceal-carry and wanted something that didn't say "Hay *whistle*, pistol in my pants". I picked up a Springfield XD40 sub-compact, that has yet to be fired, based on rave reviews, the capacity of the magazine, price, and ex-freaking-treme concealability. I'm a big dude at 6'7" 300, and I can have this in a holster on my belt with a shirt untucked, or simply in a pocket, and you would never know it was there. The 430 dollar tag with 3 magazines, a holster, and a few trinkets didn't hurt either.

Cliffs: Figure out what you want out of your purchase, figure out your price, think about going to the range and renting a few models (the best way, IMO to decide), and get something you are confortable with.

9mm are faster to shoot due to less kick back and will stop most people just fine. like already stated, the type of gun you buy depends greatly on its use. i carry mine with me almost all of the time, therefore, i wanted a small gun. i bought a taurus pt-111 millennium pro, 9mm, which is very nice. they used to be a lower quality gun, thus the price, but have one awards for quality in the past few years. (i think 1st place around 2002 or 2003). anyway, i love my gun and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an easily concealed weapon. good luck no matter what you choose. :thumb:

If this Gun is for fun or used as a starter i would suggest the Springfield XD. I got the XD9 as my starter gun and love it. The clip holds 15 rounds. You can get a all black one for $400ish. Here is my XD

I beg to differ. The situation I was talking about earlier where my dad had to use his weapon on duty was two state troopers shooting a guy from less then 20 foot away shot him 12 or 13 times with their 9mm and he still didn't even fall down. Dad shot him twice with the .45 and killed him.

well that just means your dad has a great aim. 1 shot to the spine/heart/brain (i dont wanna say head because i have heard of ppl getting shot with a .38 special in the head and picking out the bullet  ) will take ANYONE down. doesnt matter if its a .22LR or a .50AE.

back on topic:

i have owned at one point (with my stepdad) the biggest private modern fully and semi automatic weapon collection in Peru (where i used to live), so i have had everything from smg's to a mg42 machine gun :thumb: . and seriously my personal favorite gun is the sig p226, if im not mistaken this is the gun the navy seals use. if your going to buy a gun buy it used there is NO point in spending that much more when you can get a 98%-99% condition gun for that much less

glocks make great starter guns (so do the springfields). 9mm is also your round of choice when starting (ideally a .22LR is your noob round... but thats if your like 8 yrs old)

now that i live in the states again, my collection is reduced to a couple handguns, an m16, and an m40a1 (and since im not 21 im not allowed to carry any of them anymore :notgood: )

btw great website for checking out + buying guns
www.gunbroker.com

well the p226 is a .357 round. Glock also makes a .357 for those experienced enough to fire them. glock pistols are great because they are extremely comfortable and can be fired under ANY conditions. Wet bullets, dirt, water, ice, snow, beat with a shovel, thrown, dropped, and all of the oil can be removed and it can fire 100+ rounds with no jam or misfire. G-Lock has really outdone itself with this model of firearm.

with sport shooting, home defence, and stopping power I would look to the .45 ACP or simmilar caliber. .22LR doesnt do much and bounces around in the body and just pisses people off. Causes more damage though....but not strong enough to take someone off of their feet.
