so i was out driving my recently bought 91 talon tsi (fwd) and i notice steam and the gauge is reading hot, i slow to a stop and the car stalls. i got out and poped the hood, and to my dismay, coolant all over the engine bay.:thumbdown(luckily this happened a mere 50 feet from where my freinds suburban broke down on the same road at the same time) so he gets his towed and they come back for me and i can start it back up so i drove it as smootly as posible(for we had no tow truck this time). we take it to my g/f's uncles who happens to be a mechaninc that owns his own shop, and i work on it over night/into my saturday, and i find a few bad houses no big deal, replaced those and the radiator cap, topped it off with coolant, and then it starts to leak at my water pump, can see its the weep holes, so i save up a few bucks and had him order the pump today. i am goin to install it this weekend along with new belts...i dont want to use one of his high jacks if possible so we plan to support the motor with a jack, while i take out the drivers side mount, then i know i need to undo the timing cover to get to the belt. i know how to take that off, but then is the water pump belt under that? or does it go alternater/power steering belt?
i honestly dont know the order of the belts and have searched but couldnt come up with anything...what other little thigs should i look for besides the pully bearings? is it possible to do a bse mod without taking the entire engine out? or would getting to it be impossible without taking the motor out of the car?
well any additional info is welcome and appreiciated, thanks in advance

(thanx for closing my account a few day before i buy my talon moderators;) )

I will be replacing mine hopefully in the next few weeks. Mine isn't a massive leak but I can smell coolant when I arrive at my destination usually. More after I have been on it. Luckily though, a friend is going to help me who has already done it before...a couple times. But, I wonder if its the water pump or maybe just a line I can't see.

The only belts under the timing cover are timing and balance belts, you have to remove the timing belt to replace the water pump, so you might as well replace the tensioner, pulleys, and seals while you are in there if needed. And also it is possible to do the balance shaft eliminator with the engine still in the car.:thumb:

what about the water pump blet? is that on its own belt plane and under the crank or is it with the excessories? and i would do the bse mod if i could but i dont know if i can without the motor completely out of the car...i am consulting my haynes repair manual once again but thanks for the help allready, oh and the gaskets come with the pump so i wont forget those and i'll check the pullies for bad bearings.
thanx for any and all help
